Rallye Baie des Chaleurs
June 17, 2008 07:18AM
If you haven't been to BDC, you haven't been to the coolest rally in NA, period!

If you want to be able to enjoy a cold beer at a rally, if you want to spectate and not feel like a downed cow being forklifted to the slaughter and love the Atlantic Ocean, you should consider BDC. They have every kind of stage road. Wide, smooth and scary fast. Tight, rough and technical. Huge jumps. Ten thousand scectators screaming at the Camp Brulle turns. You can hear them from inside an open class car! Go on up and give them a show!

It's worth the drive. We always see moose.

I concur. Baie is my favorite

And what a great entry list. Somebody kidnap Zimmer and smuggle him to New Richmond.

Wow... This looks like the pinnacle of rally in North America. The stages look amazing. It's waay waay up there. Doubt I can make it this year.
$450 bucks for an entry fee though... Seems like you can't beat that.

The entry fee is typical for CRC events, which is about 1/2 US fees.

It is a 13 hour drive from where I live in NH, which is relatively long, but we go through all of Maine, some of NB and then Eastern Quebec which is more interesting and scenic than running I95 through NY and DC.

24 hours drive for me thru DC, NY (tolls galore), Boston and everywhere else Ted mentions he goes thru. Usually its worth it but there was once I blew a motor on the reccecar on the way home 18 hours from home. Wife had to hook up the trailer and drive tow-rig all the way up the east coast when it was 4th of July weekend to rescue me.

Out of the way for you Ted, but after going many different ways, my favorite is 20.
a bit after Montreal there's some interesting bumps and stuff and the corner you turn with Quebec City popping up out of nowhere right below you is a treat. But the best part starts a bit North of the city up to Mont-Joli (very maritime, lots of "poison" for sale) then across on 132. This section is along a crest with beautiful valleys and huge stone churches. Flower boxes on bridges and everything else. A trip to France without the flight. If you have the time, it is worth it.

Oh, boo hoo. You don't even want to know how long a drive it is for me. Could there be a rally farther away from me in North America? Um, no. (Well, technically Mexico is part of N.A. but none of us north of the Rio Grande really count it as such.) Actually, the farthest I ever drove to BDC was from Toronto.

Just rolled in from Baie an hour ago. Another great year for what is often referred to as "the best event in North America".

I'm too tired to write too much, but I got to spectate a couple places, clean a lot of mud out of the Mendhams' wheels, change some brake pads, adjust some DMS and add some fuel. And drink beers after the event. =) The Silver Dragon finished 14th, 2nd in class.

There was a U-haul trailer full of beer at "the jump", which spectators appreciated in a mellow fashion (did I mention I waited until after the event?).

Last Ditch racing won "longest jump" award for something in the neighborhood of 120 feet, car came down HARD!!!! Saw them hit a water splash so hard at the last spectator stage, the 3 piece Subie grill popped out! I think they took 9th.

Lots of teams helping each other out, lots of minor carnage, but I don't think there were any heinous offs. Ken and Alex brought the DC Scooby in on three wheels like they did at Maine a few years back. Very impressive win against L'Estage and Richard.

Tim O'Neil debuted a new Mazdaspeed3 which is very nice and will probably be a force to reckon with once the teething problems are sorted out. That car was on FIRE! (fortunately, just a little cooked wiring).

Tim Penasack and Ole Holter had a great run to take the P4 win, just making the last control before their center diff expired (had to push it out of the control and into Parc Ferme).

Vittorio Bares and Kristin Chute brought the old 4000 Quattro home in one piece (forgot the position).

Martin Walter finished with teeth chattering after front boingers that refused to boing.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some local NE people or Anarchists, but I'll let others chime in. I'm sunburned, tired, and ready to zonk out for a day or two. But damn happy I made the drive. Oh, and I made it in 10.5 hours from south central NH, at speeds generally under 80.

We "rolled" in last night. Definitely more competition this year. But, i think there were less spectators at the Camp Brulle turns.

Lot's of people changing tires and struts, or blowing trannys and motahs, but very few off road issues. One team hit a moose with their truck and then a deer with their rally car.

Thanks to all the workers for putting on another great RallyeBDC and to Fiasco for driving 20 hours so that he could crawl around under our Sub-a-rat.

Next, Rallye Defi!

112 feet with the 4000q? Holy Sheeeeeet, mon! That's more impressive than the Stunt Junkies 171 jump, IMHO.

This should point to a cool photo on flatovercrest.com
