Yeah but I rallycross... stage rally way too much for this po' boy smiling smiley

There seems to be a lot less whining, too.

Three events, in my VW, borrowed Neon, borrowed Impretzel. Forgot how to drive RWD. Remembered. Kicked ass.

You can understand the whining though. Rally is probably the most passionate form of motorsport.. it's also quite expensive on all accounts.

Not as bad as some forms of "amateur" road racing.

And my god, the whining involved there is almost supernatural.

I actually suggested to some road race poofs arguing over some BS "Why do you even unload the cars? You could just play like Charades and protest each other in the parking lot.... You could say "I'm thinking of a rule between Page 23 and 47", the other guuy could counter "Is it bigger than a gearbox?" on so forth.
Save messing all your work up"
I have actually read in SCCA's "Matters of Moment" where the publish all the shit that goes thru to appeals somebody protesting the 9th place finisher in some FV race Because he had the iccorect washers under the rockershaft pillars and as the GCRs says "hardware is free" and dined hardware as "nuts bolts and screws" so washers were "NOT free". Protest was upheld as valid, and this dousche of a "racer" got to move up one place to like 11th. Hundreds spent to move one place.
And every issue is full of such nonsense.

Jon, we've had a couple of PNW Xratty and Volvo mini-meet-n-greet beer drinking/ciggie smoking sessions here and several guys nearly fell over when I said, "Hey DOOOOoooooooOOODZerz, why don't we get together with those other 2.3 turbo rwd drive doooods and decend on some Auto-ex or even if you pussies have even 1 ball left, a Rally-ex (yeah I said to guys that it'd be fun to go Rally-eX!!) and just go skid around and we can all point and laugh and giggle when we all fuck up and cream a bunch cones. IF there's enough we just run whatever class they throw us in and who gives a shit, they can all go pound the pudding and we just have our own deal concurrently"

Silence greeted this, then YEAH! Fuck 'em all, WE! can have our own little mini cone squish fest!

And I thought I was alone in thinking the atmospere around dozens of classes and nitpicking hyper-nerds stunk..

Hey John, remember when we took Pat's Open class Subie down to Oregon to shake it down at a cone squash on wet grass (oops, I mean Rally-X)? And it was pouring down rain and they had all the cones spaced about four inches apart lining the outside of all the corners and the lanes were only as wide as the car and everyone was puttering around in first gear? And we said, "Fuck it. We didn't come all the way down here and pay $20 to putter around here in first gear!" So we just let her rip and drifted her around all the corners, mowing down waves of innocent little cones. I mean, I didn't try to hit the cones, but I didn't try not to. I think we set some dubious record of biggest number of cones hit that I'm sure stands to this day. I can't remember who won, me or you, but I think the number was something like 57 cones total, with 25 being creamed on one run. I do remember I had the fastest combined time of all cars, if you removed the cone penalties. That's when I found out that Rally-X isn't about who's the fastest but it's about who can hit the fewest cones. I think we made them mad at us, especially the course workers who had to pick up all our cones. That was cool.

57 cones FTMFW!

Damn Dave, getting crusty?
I remember they said at the end
"We stopped counting at about 120 cones for you Dave"

And your face lit up "Big Smiles" as Didier would say.

But then they said "And for YOU (me) we stopped counting at about 130 cones so winner of MOst Cones Squished goes to....."

And as a true friend you smiled even bigger for me..

Ahhh we brought happiness to all the miserable people in the cold and rain watching car stop and back up and never get sideways.

Holy shit! If I went to something like that I'd just go right home.

Or probably be a dick and take out a ton of cones and then go home. Screw 'em if they told me to never come back.

We design courses with the bare minimum cones possible... if there are EVER any gates, or outside cones, it's to keep people honest, or at least pointed in the right direction. Where we play has a few too many trees...
