I love cone squashing too!

I remember at one rally-x I went I asked a marshall "Does these cones count?" (showing him the cones outside of the corners" he said "nope, only the chicanes count as penalties"

Oh then I let it all go (well my codriver had a bad influence by yelling "keep your foot down" as we were kicking all the cones on the outside of one corner!

That was really funny but not as much the second run tough as I went a little too fast and hit the rear quarter on an ice bank! oups.

Can't wait to try that again in a RWD, since I don't know yet when I can afford to bring the Volvo out in the woods for real rallying.

FTD was 33.5, yeah.

I had 40-50 seconds in mind when I designed it, but it turned out to be a lot grippier than I had planned. The guys on snows or rally tires were getting lots tire squeal, and the corners were black in "the groove".

I can honestly say that at all the rally-exes and cone-squishing contests that I've attended, none of that pedantic, weenie, pussy-assed whining has ever happened. Of course, We're not an SCCA affiliated club, and most of the people are out there to more have fun and play at pounding the snot out of the car as much as can be done at the venue, and aren't hung up on trophies. I think the only cars that are ever trailered to events are ones that are either not road legal, or are in imminent danger of dying at the event. (which is why I've trailered my car a couple times).

Maybe that's why I really enjoy rally- and auto-X, because I've not had overly tainted experiences at them.

I will say that sometimes at RallyXes the cones are definitely put too close together. It helps a little if you volunteer to help mark where the cones go, they magically get far enough apart to actually fit through sideways...

I just found out last night that my main competition is in the Central championship lead for Gp2 and is close to 1st for all 2wd. (Good on him!) Anyway, he's one of the people who trailers. Actually, now that I think of it, nobody in our local regions trailers a 4wd anymore, it's all 2wds. There's a couple guys who work for Honda who campaign (stage rally) a couple Hondas, a couple more guys who campaign (stage rally) a Matrix, an occasional guy (Hey Andrew!) who has a Spec Focus, and then Greenhouse in his dominating Neon.

We used to have someone who ran a 323GTX but he rolled it at a Detroit rallycross and he kinda hasn't showed up anywhere since. Almost all of the 4wd guys are Subarus (there's a blue one, there's a blue one, there's a blue one...) and they're only in their class because of a modification that happened to put them there. There isn't much building-to-the-rules as much as there is in the 2wd classes. And none of them drive stage rally. (One of 'em is Chris's navvie)

I heard you did quite well indeed! Congratulations.

I may have to get on up there for one of those, assuming that my car looks enough like a rally car. Does that mean I have to paint it blue and put Subaru badges on it?

PS - Breakage is cool. I put a foot long split in my rearend housing on the front side. Wonder if one of those Ford diff braces would fit a Mazda?

I did do pretty well. I ended up either 3rd or 4th (there is some confusion, as the event was pretty disorganized). I even beat a couple of AWD turbo cars head to head in the process with my N/A 1.8L FWD Honda.

The driving and course were really fun, but the course was - in essence, an autocross course with a tiny bit of dirt thrown in.

Lucky for me, I've been autocrossing since 1992. So, as with most sports, after competing for more than 15 years, you eventually start to not suck.

I'm not sure there will be any more of these type of events. Due to the disorganization, and lack of seat time for most competitors, most people have a bitter taste in their mouth from this event (not me, bring on more of these!).

Here's some food for thought - I have seen complaints on this forum that the majority of North American Rally cars are just street cars with a cage in them. Well, my rally car is a street car without the cage.

Sounds like a good decal to be required on all Novice Rally cars - Maybe even on a huge triangular sign on the roof - just like "Student Driver".

I can buy a new camera, or I can buy new dampers. What's more important? Anyway it's welded up now. That was cool, every time I'd stop welding, the gear oil would ignite and there'd be eight inch flames everywhere.
