KB was brought up initially in the context as someone who is sponsored and doesn't need it. The reality is we don't know his arrangment and its likely (in my mind anyway) that he is paying and is not sponsored. So it wasn't off-topic although imo initally incorrect. The latter KB posts are fun speculation. smiling smiley

But yeah, I agree with you completely that its not their job, and its the converse that I was addressing, that we shouldn't rely on KB or anyone else in the first place.

Really? now I'm all curious to know. I would guess the opposite...that's the thing about rich people, it makes it easier to get richer. Subaru DOES get a lot of marketing value from having him drive their cars, I bet he gets paid a lot....and doesn't spend a dime.

Technically, he pays Pastrana to drive, right? (via DC shoes?) See how that works/trickles down?....rich getting richer. little people get squat. oh wait...no, the little people get to volunteer! LOL

ok, NOW back on topic winking smiley

Ok, if it means anything. I can vouch that Travis, Ken + the X Games has introduced people to the fact that there is rally racing, or if they already knew that, rally racing on this continent. Let's not forget that.

We've all seen this brought up time and time again here and elsewhere.

Personally, I think the bottom line is, yes it sucks that you might be competing with someone who has x10+ the cash for the sport.. but I think the smart thing to do would be to accept that and race your own race or compete in a different class.. having "names" racing with everyday product logos slapped on the side of their car isn't such a bad thing.

I forget who it was, but someone on here brought up an interesting analogy about stock car racing. I don't think they were arguing Pro Corporatization.. but why else would every Podunk shit hole have a 1/8th mile circle track if it wasn't for Nascar? And just about anyone can afford to race something there.

If a bunch of guys want to spend 10000 billion dollars on crashing expensive cars into trees, or maybe get paid to do that, then that's good for the sport in the long run. Just don't think you can compete with them.

Here's the best thing I've noticed from the inclusion of Travis and the X Games. Taken from the live updates at Rally Colorado.
Grant just said: Thank you to whoever brought the cute girls. Dunno if it was travis or me but thanks.

That was my awards speech. There were cute girls at every service milling around, the awards party, registration, and working some of the controls. And I mean cute girls that aren't already part of the Colorado Rally Crew.

Well then it's settled.

Travis and Ken are heroes. Cute girls are coming out to rally events now? What else do you need to know?

Why do men do anything?

I don't resent guys that are uber rich and can come and play, bring attention to the sport. BUT I think I'm in the minority of competitors that DON'T WANT sponsers. (I have one good sponsership deal in which I get parts at cost without the sponser requiring anything from me) It's just not worth the time. I make more money going to work then I do drawing up proposols, trying to provide them with a ROI etc etc etc. But I'm not chasing championships, I'm racing for fun when I have the time. There's just things that are better than rally- like spending time with my kids.
