What Dave said. I try and shift at 5k. At least by 6k. If I hit the limiter, I've screwed up. She does run out of steam much past 5k.

She doesn't eat up trannies as fast as the more highly tuned variants, either.

Doood I never thought it was holding you back. I edited the post to try and clarify. Re-read my post. I never suggested that he did rev the car any higher. I was just wondering whether it was a stock rev limiter or what brand of after market rev limiter it was. It's stock. Cool.

The remapped chip I have must not have a rev limiter because I hit 7600rpm last week in the GTX in the midst of a 4 wheel drift and I had to back off the throttle to save the motor and thats no fun. I want to be able to keep my foot down.

The reason I said "probably wise" was due to Ted's other thread. And the fact that if you're hauling that much ass as is and it's all bone stock and you're not breaking shit then all the better.

Don't have any restrictor. It's just 2.5" pipe on the intake side. 3" on the exhuast.

Hey Martin - that's the dip that ended our rally too - in a quick analysis - the skid plate pushed into the lower radiator outlet - deformed it - slowly allowing water out. We didn't smell it or see it - on stage start of 20, we noticed the temp rising - our starter had quit on the refuel before 19 - so shutting her off was not an option - being new to the whole engine burning scene - decided to run it and see if the temp would go down, keeping her in 4th gear as much as possible. The final blow was a flat - when we pulled over I looked in the engine bay - not pretty - so we gave it up...

Lessons learned:
- need more description in the notes - keep-right would have been better that dip was much deeper on the outside.
- need to redesign the skid plate, and move the radiator
- should have checked at the end of the stage (could have fixed the issue).
- motor w/o water doesn't last very long, next time either fix the problem or pull out.

Vitto,
sucked to see you with that hoard of cars half way through the second pass of the long rought stage (whatevere it's called). Seemed like you were having a good run until then.
Detail in the notes is something we're starting to try and do... you'll notice we had it cautioned, and I took no notice :-) ! Keep R Dip Dip might have been enough, I alwyas slow for !! even with red mist happening :-)

See you at Pines?

-Martin.

Ah yes - but it was REALLY cool to watch you and your rooster tails fly by. I've got to admit that watching the rest go by, as much as it sucked being out, was a learning experience with significant value.

Pines is not going to be in the works for me - but the guys on the crew will be campaigning an Audi 80 - they may be at Pines for their first event.

I'm putting in a new motor, and I've got to rebuild the suspension - possibly get some shorter inserts - all this = $$$$ = no rally probably until Baie sad smiley Unless of course Audi USA calls me and throws $$$ at me.

Martin - could you PM me the name of your insert rebuild guy?

Sucks you won't make it to Pines. I can't make it to Black River due to $1700 in brake work on my truck/traielr. Pm sent.

Anyone know what happened here?

Did the driver suddenly pass out and decide to just turn into the trees at really slow speeds or something?

And, stolen from Specialstage, Martin Walter's in-car.

From what I heard... he lost his brakes, tried to slow, then took to the ditch instead of hitting the fire truk they had across the road. Problem was the ditch had a camera crew in it, which he ram over... camerman was under the car, got out under his own steam - battered and bruised but fortunatly OK.... apparently he got the shot! At the end of Montpellier 2 you'll see them frantically slowing us down...

-Martin.
