Took the car out to CORE yesterday with Mark and Dave and Allison Kern in their monster hill climb Evo. It was a fun day and beat the piss out of the car. Drove home on three cylinders, a problem which came up right as we were getting ready to leave. Suppose I might actually change the spark plugs. I've not even looked at them. Ever. Guessing it's that since with the BOV it has rich little moments. Though it could easily be injectors or even something worse.
But I did come upon one thing which will be an issue that I was curious as to a fix. I never had a problem with this at the rally, but as I said, I was driving like a bit of a nanny most of the time. When I'm really hammering on it I find I'll often be flat out down a long straight after some tight twisty stuff and my brake pedal is so soft I have to brake early to pump it up. I went straight off the outside of two hairpins during the course of the day because I couldn't get stopped in time. Is there anything out there that keeps the piston knock back to a minimum? Big fresh wheelbearings, hefty flanges, secure caliper mounting. And a STIFF pedalbox. Ever heard of residual pressure valves? Monika Hawkinson Seattle, WA |

Put a light 2lb residual pressure valve in the lines to keep the pads from getting knocked back PN/260-1874

Well, I've got new wheel bearings, a reinforced firewall for the pedal box, and secure caliper mounting. Guess I'll add in the residual pressure valve, and no, I'd never heard of them. Thanks Tim for the part number! I also need to get some shoes with better support. My foot hurts from stomping the brakes. Grant Hughes |

Floating rotors are supposed to help the knockback issue too right?
But probably in a minor way, not so far as Grant is talkin. My SC does this sometimes. When you first hit the brakes the pedal drops a bit but subsequent braking the pedal is all the way up and firm. I'll be looking to see if this valve saves the day. Michael LeCompte Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/22/2008 12:41PM by pikespeakgtx. |
