They probably didn't get MacGuyver like we did. I still want a 'What Would MacGuyver do' t-shirt.

What you can't see are the two service guys in the trunk working the brakes and clutch with hand pumps.

You're assuming he is smart enough to tie shoes...I'd bet on velcro shoe laces for this guy.

Reminds me of when Dale Beard broke the throttle cable on his Datsun at the Pacific Forest Rally in 1989. He just wired the throttle wide open and used the key to turn the engine on and off to slow down in the corners. Remember that, Gene? Crazy MF...

We always said Dale could break a sledge hammer in a sand box...He had one speed. flat out, win, break or crash. Something about those old MotoX rider, they're all a little "tetched"

Tom, for kicks, go look up "Le Rhone" or "Gnome" or "rotary engine history" or something. They're old airplane rotaries - not the Wankel design that we know, more of a radial engine that spins around a crank that's bolted to the airframe. The prop was bolted to the engine case.

Anyway, they had little throttle control and mostly ran wide-open all the time. The main speed control was via "blipping" the engine by cutting the spark.

The whole thing sounds ridiculous when you think about it - a big mass of 7 to 9 cylinders spinning around throwing castor oil in your face and constantly trying to flip your puny little wood-and-paper plane over, and of which you only have the barest minimal control, but they were the hotrod engines of their day.

So that's why they sounded like they were cutting out all the time!

Kinda brings new meaning to "torque-steer". I finally read a pilots memoir that confirmed the rumors about the effects of breathing all those castor-oil fumes. Yup,there's a reason pilots lept out of the cockpit at the conclusion of the flight.

When I read the title I thought this thread was going to be more noise about rule changes and building a Galf with the motor in the back seat. Then the whole interior would be the engine bay.
