Anyone care to give any insight or speculate on the clutch operation on the gear shift lever that Rohrl had in his audi? I need to install something like this in my car.

The later Group B Audis did have an electrically activated clutch to facilitate easier left foot braking, which was about the only way you could get those things to turn. There was a button on the shifter but I'm not familiar with the exact technical aspects. Probably an electically controlled hydraulic solenoid.

You live in Michigan- why doesn't your rally car have a heater? SOme silly idea about weight saving? You planning on wiping the windshield as you drive?

You'd be amazed how many people up here don't bother with rain gear, only recently did I acquire a "proper" rain garment, and it was a $5 camo poncho from the military surplus store.


I used to work at OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) where the USS Blueback now lives (submarine, for those of you unfamiliar) and we gave daily tours. We had a handful of umbrellas for those who wanted them for the walk down to the dock. Any time someone asked for one and went to use it we'd always say "ah, tourist?" and they'd want to know how we knew.

I own two umbrellas. A golf umbrella that I won as a door prize and this really super cool square one that was never claimed from the lost and found at OMSI and looks really old, it's more for looks, I'm not sure if I've ever actually used it. The golf one does get taken to rallies and sometimes used.

Only rain gear I have is a FSN Poncho I take to Baseball games to watch the rain in. Everything else I have is for tons of snow from going to school at MTU. It was more poor planning, but I still hate just above freezing weather and rain. I normally don't mind rain and getting wet, it's just when it's windy and cold.

Would you care to speculate on whether the solenoid would be mounted to the clutch pedal or to the gearbox itself?

We still haven't addressed the lack of heater. With that one can at least stay warm. Perhaps we need get you to ice events. Wait, you went to Tech and don't have a heater. Did you get through Thermo? Stay inside Wads all year?
I worked one event without 100% rain gear and got very close to hypothermia. Climbed in the car and started it up- ogt warm and drier. Then I reevaluated my rain gear.

It was on the pedal arm (the pedal was still functioning manually as well) and caused a few insuries when driver left his foot under the pedal. The clutch pedal moved with brutal force and quickness.
I saw it once but don't know if it was A. All electric B. Hydraulic or C. Pneumatic.

The guy is selling entertainment, and I found it entertaining!! His sponsors got some exposure at the same time and, besides the car resembling a rally car, the video had no connection to rally.

Rain gear? Who needs that? Our hair is naturally water repellant, like a beaver's. (Merrilee is gonna have a field day with that one...)

That's all it is, entertainment and marketing. It's gotta be nice to have multiple companies willing to cover expenses (and/or provide nice write-offs) to "build brand awareness" by playing with cars. Just so long as those with the Haliburton cases full of $100s don't stomp on the people who were there first and call them "haters" for not agreeing with everything they do.

This video isn't rally. It is entertaining, but it's no Climb Dance or Rendezvous.

X-Games isn't rally. It is entertaining to watch rally cars get demolished in a sick sort of way, until you think of how many 240s or XR4s or Trabants you could build from the repair costs of that spectacle.

Hell, some of the rallies aren't what they used to be...
