Sweet - just talked to Dave, and I think we have a plan.

Randy - is there any chance you can meet John G to get the paperwork and stuff for the car and then keep it for Dave and Stuart to come get it? (I'll call you direct if you send your number)

I sent John G a draft letter of permission with all the details customs wants on the letter, so he can now fill it out with Dave and Stuart's names. We'd like to avoid leaving the car's documentation and keys with the car just in case - so if you can grab that from John G so he can leave, and then meet up with Dave and Stuart when they come to get the car that would be awesome...

Best plan so far - and I can't thank you guys enough if you guys can pull this off.

Alright - spoke to John G.

Randy - We're not going to need any document pick up or anything. Thanks very much for the offer of help though - really appreciated.

He said the location of the lot is so off the beaten path that he'll just put the documentation in the glove box, and hide the keys on the car. (I'll call you Dave with the details.)

Man - if I can get the car to Toronto after all this drama, it'll be one amazing story to tell after...

BTW - I know you'll think WTF was all the fuss over when you see the car... smiling smiley

No worries Randy - I think we've got it covered with Dave and Stuart.

Now I'm just hoping the weather co-operates for them if they can swing the pick up tonight. Time isn't so pressing now at all though - so safe travel is always a priority. It's at a storage facility, and the proper paper work is in place for Dave and Stuart to take it across.

I even called Customs Canada and read the letter verbatim and she (Alisha at 12:42 PM est) said it was perfect.

I'll be speechless if this all works. And will have to think of a very cool thank you for Dave and Stuart in thanks... (Over and above expenses and such of course.)

This deserves a bump, as I'm pretty sure there are at least tens of dollars being wagered on how this turns out!

I can assure you I've got more than tens of dollars riding on it!

I think Dave and Stuart are good to go for Monday AM, and if all goes well they'll be in Etobicoke around lunch time.

Damn...

Just got word that Dave and Stuart didn't feel confident they could load the car and transport it safely to Etobicoke.

Car would be too much for his truck and didn't feel that it would be prudent to attempt. Big thanks to them both for attempting.

So - now gotta see if the tow truck company is willing to go into NY to get the car from the storage lot.

So those that bet against this adventure win the bets - this time.

Car was delivered to Toronto on the back of a flat deck tow truck.

Thanks to all that offered help and advice - it was much appreciated.

Rabin I feel really bad we were unable to help you. It was just impossible without having another 6 guys with us. Stu was also worried about how unstable the trailer would be.

Glad everything worked out.

No worries Dave - I appreciated the effort. You guys drove down and checked it out. Sure it was disappointing, but MUCH better than getting a call that something bad happened while loading it!

I've loaded dead cars by myself by unhooking the trailer, blocking the wheels well, and then using a tow rope tied to the truck to simply pull the car on.

Stuart wasn't comfortable with that method, and he felt that the car and trailer might be too much weight for his Hemi Dodge truck.

He had a bad feeling about it - so I'd MUCH rather him just walk away then attempt something he wasn't comfortable with.
