They even did the stage with the rally car (no parc fermé at that rally sprint). I think 2-3 years ago it also happened at Perce-Neige. Francois |

Now I don't think Jason would cheat, I know Doug wouldn't. Since we run on mostly public roads they could drive them anyway. So seems like much ado about nothing. |

ah, I recall being upset a year or two ago because they wouldn't put up the damn spectator information until only a few days before Oregon Trail because they didn't want people out there running around on the stages
so all the people I knew that wanted to go from up in WA had no way to plan in advance what time they needed to be where, etc they know there's a rally outside of hillsboro, anyone can go out on those public roads before hand, they may get it right, they may get it wrong, but good grief, what's wrong with letting them know 2 weeks before instead of 2 days before? |

I had to make a number of trips out to Aberdeen (from Bainbridge) a few years ago and included passes on Smith Creek and Brooklyn on each trip so I would be familiar with the roads when competing in Doo Wop. I would call notes into a voice recorder and compare passes to see how consistent I was judging things. I even wrote the notes down at one point. However, mechanical DNF/DNSs before reaching Brooklyn meant that I never got to use that knowledge in competition. alan |

I did catch a couple competitors on stage the day before a rally once. It was a new stage that hadn't been used before. I don't know how they found it. They withdrew their entries.
With the number of in car videos nowadays there aren't too many unseen stages. |

Two days is insufficient time for the local upset residents to get the town board together and pass resolutions that stop the rally. Often (even with all the signs and notices) they don't pay attention till there are cars on the roads. That's one thought, anyway. Plenty of other possibilities exist, including some that are stubborn, etcetera. No telling for sure. Cheers, Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |

I firmly believe ---maybe from 20 years of doing tracks, most of it overseas with longer more complex tracks than US moto-cross---that unless the repeat of a section of road or course is withing a few minutes the "advantage" has a very short "half-life". Repeat it 20 times in 35 minutes or 50 minutes, and you might know the stage.) > > With the number of in car videos nowadays there > aren't too many unseen stages. There were however ribbons tied in the trees before all the really tight corners. Buffum is legendary for remembering a road seen once. Brent, my kid, can pretty well memorize a stage on one run, even backwards. Part of it is natural ability and a lot I believe is from hours of playing racing games on Playstation and Xbox. When I last ran in '04, DooWops, Brent co-drove. His first time in a rally car. After the "patch" took hold (thanks Doug) and he got over car sickness things got pretty interesting. On the reverse Brooklyn we beat a bunch of cars. Brent was calling the corners.. backwards. He and I had only been on the road one time, the first run the other direction. He can nail a stage just from watching clips on Youtube. On the other hand I can't remember shit. Damitio and I found a new road once and 6 mos later it was used on a rally. At the start of the stage Duane Bender was looking ahead in the route book, I told him never mind I knew this one, yeah right. The first right hander I took about 20 mph too fast, off the outside, up the bank through the trees , back across the road, through the trees on the other side for about 60 feet. Thanks goodness there wasn't an exposure or big ditch. Duane was actually hitting me with the route book.."Dammit McCullough..." I gotta say we were both laughing so hard we had tears. He read the route book the rest of the stage. |
