My mom voted democrat for the first time this year based upon McCain's health care plan. But she has about a 10-12K per year pharmaceutical need due to RA. And she's a pharmacist so gets it at a discount.

I'm more apt to contact my legislator about how the state is planning on bailing on my collectively bargained pay raises....
I don't nor will I probably ever use the poison center, and anyone who needs emergency medical assistance for a poisoning should be waking up their local paramedic anyways. If the state wants to make some money they should get rid of the liquor control board. The tax revenues from private liquor sales would increase over the state's and the state wouldn't be paying for all of these liquor stores and employees. -Tom DemonRallyTeam | Fine Tuning | CTS Turbo & RP Turbos | RalleyTuned | JRM | Meister Autowerks Spitfire EFI | Product Apparel | JVAB Imports | NLS | AP Tuning | USRT Add us on Facebook | Next Event: 2013 Olympus Rally June 22-23 Olympia, WA |

Well, Tom, the reason that the health care costs stay down is just the opposite of what you said. By calling the paramedics (who usually end up calling the WAPC) you force them to call the hospital, or worse for costs, TAKE you there. Really, the best thing about them is that when your son/daughter whatever gets into something, you can call them and they will tell you what to do, if anything. The save time, money, and headaches, and if your a worrying parent, your sick kid is with you, at home, where they can be comfortable.
Alot of the times you call 911 for something that the poison center handles, you will be referred to them, OR you will get taken to the hospital, where the doctor will contact them. Either way, the WAPC is used when you get poisoned, or think you/your kid did. They do animals too, and I have personally called when my dogs have gotten into something and saved myself a vet bill. Paramedics are trained in poison control, you already pay them through your taxes, your taxes will not go up when they work harder, only when you choose to increase their pay.
If you need to go to the hospital, you need to go to the hospital, nothing changes here....on the slight chance that something can be taken care of on the spot you are golden, other wise they'll give you a ride to the hospital. You already pay for this taxi service through your taxes, if you need treatment in the emergency room, then you will get taken care of there, yes if you get taken care of at the emergency room, then you'll have to pay for it...big shocker. When you call 911, you pay for this through your phone bill and taxes as well...its ok to make them work a little harder when you need help, its why they are there. I am failing to see how this would bump my personal health care up any more when this service is available for the price of the taxes I already pay for. any questions you have can be answered online, setup a website with Q & A section, or an automated hotline, done. I can get stickers and magnets anywhere, it shouldn't cost millions of dollars to run this service. -Tom DemonRallyTeam | Fine Tuning | CTS Turbo & RP Turbos | RalleyTuned | JRM | Meister Autowerks Spitfire EFI | Product Apparel | JVAB Imports | NLS | AP Tuning | USRT Add us on Facebook | Next Event: 2013 Olympus Rally June 22-23 Olympia, WA |

Its a non profit organization. They make no money. The money goes to staff wages and public education. They're not volunteers, they're Nurses, Pharmicists, Doctors... They've all gone to school.
But yeah its up to you guys, in the end, and I'm not going to push this on you. Tennesse I think was the state that closed there center down and health care costs rose dramatically. Its sense been reinstated and the costs have gone down. there is evidence of whats going to happen. so, theres the vid, theres the link, do what you want. The majority of "non-profit" organizations make ALOT of money and it is distributed accordingly, these people are paid wages to sit by a telephone and wait for people to call. The Poison Center gets $2 Million dollars in state funds annually, plus alot of other donations. The center gets 250 calls/day on average, mostly from children (news article). There is no doubt in my mind that service load could be transferred to 911, paramedics, and/or emergency room staff who could have face to face contact with the few poisoned individuals actually calling this hotline to ensure their safe and appropriate treatment.
Timm I'm not trying to argue with you but just to point out there are alot of agencies in this state that could be run much more efficiently....it is up to us to ensure that they are run more efficiently and intelligently. My agency spends millions of dollars every year frivolously...there is alot of money invested in the agency just to ensure public trust....things like public disclosure, complaints and administration cost far too much in every state agency, and we should all be concerned with how our tax money is spent in these respects. Back to my Liquor Control Rant: The WSLCB spends 140 million annually to operate and earns nearly $200 Million in tax revenue (2002 stats). You cant tell me that privatization of this agency wouldn't result in a significant decrease in tax revenue spent on this agency, in fact, the 1200 employees would diminish significantly and the the state would no longer have to worry about the costs of leasing and maintaining 300+ liquor stores. Instead the cost to run the agency would be 20-40 Million dollars or less depending on how management is driven, and tax revenue would increase dramatically, allowing your tax rate to decrease or the money to be spent in more socially responsible areas, like providing more resources to alcoholics, or possibly funding of a Poison control center....? -Tom DemonRallyTeam | Fine Tuning | CTS Turbo & RP Turbos | RalleyTuned | JRM | Meister Autowerks Spitfire EFI | Product Apparel | JVAB Imports | NLS | AP Tuning | USRT Add us on Facebook | Next Event: 2013 Olympus Rally June 22-23 Olympia, WA |

Tom, I gotcha. And I'm not trying to argue either. I was just trying to point out some facts that most people don't realize. As I said, Its ultimately up to you all to do what you please. And your liquor control rant is a good idea.
