Does the strut tube go straight into the knuckle? Easy. If you want good suspension locally tailored to that car i think you know where you should visit. Then again, maybe you want to spend a lot. > alan > > John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! I am looking for a photo of the road car part for comparison. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 03/27/2009 06:57PM by tipo158. |

Most people call the rear struts McPhearson anyway, kind of like all tissue is Kleenex. |

With open discussion everybody benefits, and everybody can learn from seeing the process of how things are done. A week ago Jason and Gary came up the house and did magic with the rear of the car.... The coachwork in back is much straighter then I remember it in years.
Friday the Volvo got it's roof beaten up enough that the co-conspiritor's door opens, closes and actually fits the opening. Saturday the car got the bushing for the right rear shock shoved back into it's hole and a panhard rod that is not bent into the shape of a pretzel. Thanks Derek. It needs some love with plastic (Bondo) on the body, paint, a windshield and for me to figure out a different solution for rear brake calipers + exhaust repairs under the hood to be ready for more abuse. Progress. Oh.... I need to scare up all the plastic in the nose too and a set of seatbelts. Details... Details.... Details.... JohnLane Overkill is consistently more fun |

I keep thinking about doing something to mine, considering I'm doing the Tumbleweed Express Rally next weekend. Probably will just throw some more oil in the diff and put the seat back in it though. New exhaust manifold is sitting right here and new stand alone should be here tomorrow or the next day.

Yesterday, for other peoples' cars:
Got together with JV and premachined two bellhousings and cut out some ears to weld on. Remember, this is for the Chevy T5 to Volvo redblock bellhousings. Today, for my car: Picked up a freshly rebuilt Toyota 8" 3rd member with 4.3 and Supra LSD. Monika Hawkinson Seattle, WA |

So not all in one day but recent progress has been made, finally. Most of the work is going on with the front suspension/brakes.
Got my SOOPER BITCHIN suspenders from John. Big YEAH for that! Removed both sway bars. Got another set of lower control arms and rear bushing brackets with near new poly bushies, stripped, sandblasted, boxed, primed, and painted. Sourced a set of RX7 calipers from Derrick at Corksport, complete with decent pads and braided lines. Finished up some loose ends with the battery box upgrade. Got a four door set of window rubber from a newer car in the yards and cleaned them up and threw em in the two door moldings. So with the exception of the junction block plugs and the adapter brackets all the pieces are together for my front suspension/ brake swap. This is going to be a massive improvement for the car. I am scrambling to find a manual ZF rack so I can add the quick rack into this equation. Couple of questions on the project. What has been done by others to hide/protect the lines from gravel spray? I can remember Kevin mentioning this but what was the decided solution. And I was wondering when Kevin may be able to control his primal urges long enough to get some pants on and fab up some brackets? Next rallyX is 3rd of May and it would be great to have this all swapped in. This car is far to hard to drive at the moment. Had my first rally cross of the season on the 5th and I drove it to 2nd in M2R. Greater satisfaction was had though when Cody Crane dual drove my car and I was able to best him. Seeing that and riding shotgun as he sawed away at the wheel made me see how difficult it is to wrestle this pig. Great to be getting somewhere. Zap zap my ass... |

re-lo'd the battery to behind my driver's seat. Organized all my aux wiring lights nice and neat w/a new fuse box.
got under the car and eyeballed the tranny to see just how easy/hard it would be to swap out this 20kg center diff I picked up....umm, I'm going to leave that one to a pro. Jon Burke - KI6LSW Blog: http://psgrallywrx.blogspot.com/ |
