Yesterday on my Opel...

*Stripped crud from left wheelwell, did some seam welding on shock tower.
*Welded in frame rail extension to connect front framerail to rear framerail
*Welded up inner fender to outer fender after cutting it out for vertical tire clearance under my fender flares.
*Dug out some more rollcage tubing from my barn, very buried under two cars.
*Called JVL to discuss LSD upgrades for my ZF diff, may have broken record for shortest duration JVL phone call ever...just 45 minutes.

Opel is a 4-letter word...

I am one of the defiled with a warmed over street car. However, we have worked on the car constantly since it was "finished" doing minor upgrades and changes.

The car was a 2.3 with 155K on it, bone stock. If it weren't for the RA rookie rules, I would have tossed the 2.3 some time ago. It's not that I don't like the 2.3, it's just so easy to use a 5.0.....KISS you know. Also, I already have one.

The rear suspension is basically stock. Poly bushings, slightly beefier springs, ditched the horizontal shocks. We also seriously beefed the upper shock mount.

I am not as quick/brave as I think I am, at least not yet. I have yet to drive with more than 70hp though, so we'll see. The engine is going in very soon!

Bonus day! I had Monday off from work, so TO THE SHOP!

Finished out the brake line plumbing, mounted firewall components and futzed with a power steering cooler that kept kicking my butt

Q: So what did you do to your car today?

A: I pressure washed the front steps of my house. Somehow it was much more satisfying. I also put up a shelf over the computer. Ahhh. Nice. grinning smiley

So far today, I've reworked to the Novice Competitor Orientation outline to have the handouts be more organized, and also gathered some of those files all in one place, and I've updated the handbook for the arrival control marshals to deal with the time card that we started using at the last event.

I finally got around to putting my hood vent cover on. After it was already too late, I realized when riveting it on, I put two in the center to keep it straight, then started at the outside and worked my way back to the middle. Dummy! It turned out fine, but I think it woulda' looked a little better if I'd done it the proper way. *Smacks own face*
This'll make my co-driver happy, I replaced the rolled up blanket footrest with an actual footrest. Woot! Woot! I didn't screw it down, though. I'm gonna see how it works without screws...hmmm.
AND last but not least, I'm working on upgrading the last section of exhaust on my car that isn't 2.25" tubing yet. So far, it hasn't been too easy.
Will keep ya posted, I know you're on the edge of your seat. winking smiley
