Continued to remove sound deadening. Someone on the TR7 forums suggested using heat instead of cold and the stuff is just peeling off. Also removing lots of seam sealing goo. Also removing panel adhesive from the interior (a lot of the interior was just glued to the chassis). Trying to figure out some things about what I am finding under the paint and sound deadening. The guys on the TR7 forums are telling me that parts that I found under the sound deadening and the paint from when the factory painted the car are not factory parts. Also, I have been looking at cage stuff. Custom Cages does a nice, modern cage for the TR7, so I have been looking at the pictures on the website to figure out how things will be placed and how much of the interior I will be able to use and what interior brackets I can remove. For example, after seeing how much of the cage will interfere with the parcel tray, I have decided not to put the parcel tray back in, so I can remove a couple more brackets. I am trying to think of a way to retain the OEM seat belts (because using racing harnesses on the street is against the law) and I can't figure that out, that means there are more brackets that I can remove. alan |

They make DOT harnesses, but none of those are also FIA or SFI certified competition harnesses. A second issue is that the OEM TR7 seat belts (both the end of the belt and the clip-in latch) attach to the OEM seats, so I would need to install four more seat belt anchorages (in addition to what I need to do for the racing harnesses). And they would be farther away from the inertial reel and might not be long enough. I guess I am looking for excuses to take the OEM belts out. > Pure mathematics is the enemy of every truly > creative man -- Sir Alec I dunno. I thought number theory was cool. alan |

How about a cheap set of DOT 4-point belts with snap in ends to clip onto your harness eye bolts? Swap them in for street use -- there are tons of those available for the ricer/drifter crowd. Math was my undoing in Uni, got my BSc but I'm still one math course away (multiple integrals) from my honours, thus my identification with the Issigonis quote ![]() Cheers, Ted Pure mathematics is the enemy of every truly creative man -- Sir Alec |

Removed the dash and center console. Removed the last of the sound deadening, except for a very stubborn patch near the fuel filler. Then I lifted the last of the carpet on the console and found another big patch of sound deadening on the forward portion of the transmission tunnel. Removed a bunch of seam sealing goo; most of it is now gone from the passenger compartment. I think that I am gonna need to learn to weld because there is a lot of seam welding that needs to be done! Resolved the DOT seatbelt issue. Gonna get a set of Schroth Rally Cross 4-point harnesses for road use. Now I can remove the shoulder belt brackets. Labelled and removed the rear wiring harness. Started to remove the windscreen surround and reached a point where it would not come loose. With the dash out of the way, I have been comparing the pictures of the Custom Cages current TR7 design with what I see in the car and realized that the dash bar goes through the heater box. Something to think about before I take the car in to get caged. alan |

yesterday I drilled out all the spot welds on the passenger's side and now that seat is out...and can't possibly go back in!
I also got my dashboard out, does someone here have a cool flocking gun I can borrow? Jon Burke - KI6LSW Blog: http://psgrallywrx.blogspot.com/ |

Drove my car to John Lane's place and parked it while I helped weld the roof on John's Volvo. Idaho is going to kick ass.
