Here are some pictures of my new soon to be ride.
I'm hoping to get it back on the road in time for my wedding in August. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

How's that for legalese? It's got a perfectly good air cooled four banger.. so I'll go with no! I wonder if you could pass off a 13b as an NSU wankel. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

I knew a fella in the 70's that worked for the importer for Mini Cooper's into Germany back in the day, he said when the NSU TT came out it was amazingly quick compared to the Mini Cooper S.
Also had a neighbor that raced them when they were a few years old, he switched from 850 Saab to NSU TT, and he was the guy to beat in the area when running the Saab, he claimed the NSU was faster at the tracks he ran. There are some video's on YouTube regarding NSU worth a watch. As always IMHO SEAN TENNIS KF7JJR SEATTLE, WASHINGTON SAAB 99, SAAB 850 SAAB V4, SAAB 99T |

Yeah, I`m hoping that I`ll be able to at least do some cone squishing.. gotta get the thing fixed up first tho! I`ve seen the videos.. they`re pretty neet, not exactly torque monsters, but sure looks like fun ![]() Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

Thanks! I`m stoked about everything but the air cooled part
![]() A nicely tuned engine with a header and some form of adequate heat, may present a bit of a problem. But I will cross that bridge when I get to it. I`ve actually got 2 to pick up.. one requires a hell of a lot of welding.. so that`s going to sit in storage, offer up parts for the first bit. Cheers, Andrew Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

Who needs heat ? Just wear a warm jacket and love the experience.
![]() My 1960 Beetle didn't have heat, but it did have a "fresh air vent" and a wooden dipstick for a fuel guage. My Colt has no heat, the only way to get the fog off the windshield is for the co-driver to use a stick with a rag duct taped to it - Ghetto all the way ! I'm putting in a mojave heater before my next rally, so by 2011. Is you NSU 6 volt ? |

I`m a sucker for heat ![]() A mojave heaterÉ Will have to google that one. I would reckon that by 69 it`s a 12 volt. If it`s not, I`ll do something about it ![]() Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

The mojave heater unfortunately requires water from the engine.
My 1960 beetle had the stock 1200cc 36 horsepower engine, the generator "stand" was cast and part of the engine case. So I was stuck with the 6 volt generator. Later models had a removable generator stand so it was possible to switch to the 12 volt stand and generator. I did buy a Radio Shack kit that bumped it up to 12 Volts so I could install a Jensen AM/FM cassette player. But it wouldn't run the headlights. That was 20 years ago perhaps there's more options today ? I'd imagine your NSU is 12 Volts, my 1969 Beetle was. (I think the Beetle was switched to 12 Volt in 1966/67). |

So much so, I hadn`t even thought of it until you asked. I always liked the look of beetles.. but can`t stand the sound. Andrew M Onterrible 30ish |

My 1969 Bettle had an Eberspacher factory instally gas heater option.
Eberspacher is still in business today making gas fired heaters for Cars, trucks, and boats. http://www.eberspacher.com/ Here's an install : http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=457982 I'm sure's there's lots on the net and you could probably even find a used one. The gas heater in my 69 Beetle was awesome. I'd go out in the morning, pull the switch, return 5 minutes later and the car would be defrosted and hot without having to even turn the ignition on. Just another avenue to consider, perhaps ? |
