I know you're probably right but when I've decided what the distance/severity of a corner is I don't find my perceptions changed when I see it at speed. Yes on stupid long straights like the one at Baie where I hit 205kph before I backed off, My co-driver was counting down by hundreds for a KM cause I was sure I'd miss the L at T at the end. But Jemba scared me. The distances just SEEMED so wrong and I could not go fast on them.

I know what David means. I remember hearing an interview with Nicky Grist and he was talking about how the note is which gear they're in. When I make my pace notes, I do a mix of this concept and severity of corner. So if it is a 4 in Jemba notes, but is downhill and off camber, I'll make it a 3 or 3+ so that I go into it at an appropriate speed and caution. This does cost me time, but hey, I'm still young. smiling smiley
I don't mind the distances, my biggest pet peeve is when their close to the same. 200 L4 200 R3 200 over crest 200 into L2 into R2 200. That's a bit of an exaggeration and the worst I've experience this in was someone elses pace notes that I used as a starting point, but we didn't have time to make our own. Driver and myself both got a little confused. I went through and added 20-30 and subtracted 20-30 just to differentiate between them.

Yeah, we tried the McCrae "in-gear" style at first but with 5th gear at that time impossibly long it left only 1-4. And you need a 5 and maybe a 6 just like, why have amps that only go to ten......

Without a proper gearbox/setup you can't think of it as which gear you need to be in, but it can be what speed you should be at. A 3 is inherently slower than a 4...
