All this negative stuff, geeze.
look at these: And if you think that's just crazy, read the history of the Swedish empire from 1250 to 1809, the pick up the Finnish history from then to the Winter War and the Continuation War. Finns fighting Russians for just short of 700 years and then we see this: The world is an amazing place, and amazing things happen in the course of one lifetime if: We really need to be able to embed videos here, ya knows? ------------------------------------------------------- > so are people forced to watch this??? Of course not, but in the context of this thread in this current time with so much worry and fretting about serious stuff, serious dislocations and a lot of people worried about the loss in value of their "investments" and the general pessimistic mood worldwide, seeing people from 2 countries that had fought nearly every generation for 700 years clearly and obviously having great time on a nice summer night confirms for me that we can choose to be optimistic. Those guys in the uniforms are RUSSIAN ARMY, even if they are a choir, they are the RED ARMY. The same Red Army which attacked Finland, killed 20,000, took about 20% the actual land area, and when the Finns sought to take it back, killed another 86,000. Not to go way off base but to get an idea of the effect of losing 96-98,000 men killed on a country of just 3,000,000 would have on us in the US, we'd need to multiply that 3 million up to our level of population, cause 96,000 in the course of the big ol' WWII doesn't sound too bad. But if we compare the losses to OUR population at the time, roughly 140,000,000 we'd want to bump it up by 46.6 times to sense the loss. And we'd see 4,480,000. That's FOUR MILLION, EIGHT HUNDREDTHOUSAND KIA we'd have to had lost then to have the same effect on our national psyche and memory. We lost in WWII 292,000 killed in fighting during the whole war, another 120,000 in training, accidents, transport... Maybe you see the massive impact. And here is the Choir of that Army singing all sorts of crazy songs with their former enemies and everybody is having a great time. Somewhere there had to be enough optimism and confidence in the basic goodness of people to guive the other side a chance. And I am amazed. > > > > > what the kids are listening to (3 years ago at > least) Oh that was food! Gogol Bordello. They're right! Nobody knows Nicolai Gogol! John when you can convince the nutty Muslims that we can all sing a few bars of Kum-By-Yah together and that all will be just a fine you will have me convinced.
Somehow I see the Nutty Muslims as being the Black Knight in 'The Holy Grail.' They do feel that they are invincible. As for the Red army choir singing and having fun with thie Finns... Remarkable. The Ending of the Life of Brian.... Love that scene. What a bummer that we lost him to throat Cancer. His Funeral was priceless. What a way to be remembered. You know, I read somewhere that the US has more Muslims than most countries in the middle east. I've had a few friends and coworkers that were Muslim. One of the most dedicated surgeons in the VA and one who truly, truly believes in the VHA mission to provide the world's best health care to our service men is Muslim and an immigrant originally from Pakistan. He's a true blooded American and loves this country regardless.
I'm an optimist at heart and think things will get better. (Psst. JVL, did you get my PM?) Grant Hughes |
