damn, some of you guys really get it done. i am probably looking at 2-3 here a season until i run RA, and then it depends how much breaking the car and how much it costs to fix for future seasons.

I think an event costs all in all around 1k to 1.5k not including a really long tow for me, so if i ran doo wops, olympus, oregon trail, wild west, and hood that would be like 6k in rally fees assuming nothing broke. if i added idaho, nevada, PFR, colorado and did 9 events in a year that would be like 12k to campaign...before factoring in broken stuff....motorsports get a bit pricey...

2 to 3 times a year for me. I always intend to do more events, but major car repairs, work schedules and the dwindling rally budget conspire against me...

I am on a six year dry spell. Hopefully after college I might get my hands back on the wheel.

Ha! To the mathematically inclined it should be intuitive that:

a) No
b) The answer given is not for my personal rallying

The derivations are left as an exercise for the reader. winking smiley

hehe, also Michel, do you mean drivers with their own cars or do co-drivers who take rides in others people hardware count as well? We know how some co-drivers like to galabant around the country...

So far, one stage rally/year, and multiple rallyx's. Hopefully when the day comes that I'm done with college, I'll be able to do more!

For a more objective answer to this question, or to analyze trends, go spend a while on www.rallyracingnews.com.

You'll see how it breaks down. How the rally competitor base is broken down by disposable income. How each of those groups' involvement differs...the rise, the peak, and the fall of their involvement.

Almost nobody stays in the game of chasing national championships for too long...it's just not sustainable for anyone but the very priveledged.

Many countries have responded by adjusting their national championships to suit. The US still hasn't...and it is the largest rallying country to tow across along with being one of the weaker marketing values in rallying.

These factors will perpetuate the above stated rise, peak, and fall of involvement and competitor retention will continue to falter until more sensible championships are designed.

Just my opinion.

BTW...got an email yesterday about a group setting up a MaxAttack! 2wd series in Australia.

You're right (as usual) Lurchie-poo.
One little point: Oz is damn near as large as Continental USA, China is as big and Russia is way bigger and all are weak markets. But all do indeed tailor the championship to suit.

Max Attack is the ONLY innovation in the last 20 years worth anything.

It is great, and equally appalling how backwards other "Oafish-al" successive "Brilliant Plans" have been.

Yeah, what I meant was...while they are as large as us geographically, their championships are designed to be more efficient. Nobody has the tow miles the US (RA) does.

I really appreciate your enthusiasm for MaxAttack!, John, but I can't entirely agree with that. There are lots of good folks with lots of ideas. The trick is finding things that work for a wide variety of folks. The one thing in common is that we all like to bomb thru the woods as fast as we can. That one fact makes you have something in common with a guy in a blue Subaru. Whew! Did that send a chill down your spine? smiling smiley

Back to the topic...it's what Derek talked about in that rant thread about the auto industry. I think his exact quote was "decline in demand is one of the hardest things for an organization to deal with," or something like that.

So pretty clear that those unburdened from the need to buy, build and pay to run cars can do lots of events----sitting in the other side.

Must not be sharing enough of the overall burden.
