The timmy pic earlier was priceless. And, yeah, the sin bin was created because its only resident couldnt find a constructive way to express his displeasure with a business dealing with JVL.
But don't for a New York Minute try to pretend that you weren't making veiled threats and innuendos about talkin to all different kinds of authorities about "tipping off Uncle Sam" to some illegal dealings with money, citizenship, or both. It was borderline internet fight 2006 with such great phrases as: "I dare you to come to blah blah blah and say that...", "I wonder if the feds know about this", "your mother wears combat boots" etc. No BS, no strings, hell - no dog in the fight. But the *only* ways you could possibly claim to NOT have meant what you said as a threat or combined threats of purpose would be to either admit you were 12 or younger at the time (which wouldnt mean you didnt know it as a threat, but you could claim that as a child you werent aware of possible consequences) or claim insanity. No offense, but you seem a little to smart to be crazy. I know crazy. And sources say you were old enough to legally drive in ought six. So what to do now? Stick to your guns? Come clean? Perhaps admit some errors in judgement? Maybe claim to just not have thought what you were mentioning was particularly damning or threatening? Don't know. Don't care at this juncture. I just know that if the neighbor is stealing cable, I might be a little jealous, I might even give her grief about it. But I sure as hell am not going to bring up in conversation to the entire neighborhood that she's doing it. ***************************************** I dont know what role Kevin's got in all this, aside from what sounds like a bad experience volunteering. I got lucky my first time, my son and I were driven to a ribboned off point and left there with a young couple that had volunteered for many events. (Cute as hell couple too, I wonder if they ever got married) Anywho, the whole hot food, radio thing sounds like something I would say if'n I was in that position and pissed. And I would say that at this moment hearing (reading) morten2's response of sucking it up was missing one critical phrase: "you wuss!" Yeah, I said it. Because it sounds **exactly** like what a bud of mine here in 'sconny would say right before making reference to a possible lack of a penis, or perhaps asking me if I needed another chair for my Uterus. He's raw, he's brash, but you know when he's just givin ya shit as opposed to bustin your balls. mort: I thought you were givin him sheet.... but you might try throwing some harsher language in there..... instead of suck it up, try c'mon you puss! ![]() ************************************ John, stickin up for Kev as always is the noble thing... but you and mort seem to be.... acidic and basic. positive and negative. white rice vs fried rice. I cant imagine this is helpin your blood pressure at all.... how about just leaving it be next time for as long as you can muster, and seeing how it pans out. Hell, that might actually work for the both of ya.... leave it be, come back to it later. You can both come back the next day and tell the other guy how much of a cock he is and it will still end up in the same threads.... but we might ALL be able to avoid all this mess, and i might beable to get done with the semester and start asking the board about suspension design theory without having to worry about whether or not its going to turn into a 5 page monkeypoo slinging event. I HATE monkey poo. Very stinkeeeeeey. There ya have it folks, no editing, hell, I'm so tired, I'm not even gonna check for spelling errors. And boom goes the dynamite. Positive and negative kinda works, but opposites attract... And I'm not sure we need Morten and Vanlandingham attracted to each other. *shudders* They're more like magnets, repelling. Kirk,
Despite the late hour you wrote very well. My opinion is that both parties need to back off and accept that their dispute does not help the community. Merrilee, What it's turned into. You are absolutely right. Nothing could be worse for the sport than a potential volunteer reading this and thinking "no way am I getting mixed up with those people". The more that I think about this the more it pisses me off! All the shit talk in this thread needs to be deleted by it's authors IMMEDIATELY, for the good of the sport. ------------------------------------------------------- Kirk thank you for posting your oppinion, I appreciate it. This is not intended as a rebuttal to your points, or a defence, but rather a gloves off no holds barred illustration of facts (you probably don't care, but since you entered this arena of "the dispute" without seeing fault in any of JVL's actions or lack there of your post "seems" somewhat biased) > But don't for a New York Minute try to pretend > that you weren't making veiled threats and > innuendos about talkin to all different kinds of > authorities about "tipping off Uncle Sam" to some > illegal dealings with money, citizenship, or both. I found JVL on specialstage and appreciated all of his helpful insight. He made long posts, "seemed" to give good advice, and I appreciated that. I was in the market for a built car. At one point I was considering under JVL's advice to buy one of his Xratties and building it at his property (like Skye was doing). But decided that I didn't have the skill set to do so. When Paul Morgan's "Vodge Dolt" came up for sale, JVL pointed it out. It was sitting in the shop at one of the people that JVL had had a bad business dealing with - Van Bogart's Cascade Autosport. Van Bogart's customer (the then owner of the Dolt) has "blown" the engine at a rally. Cascade's engine builder had taken the engine apart but couldn't determine what collection of parts JVL (the engine builder) had put into the engine when it was built (Hydrid engine). JVL didn't like Van Bogart and wouldn't reveal what was in the engine, so to make a long story shorter the previous owner decided to unload the car and buy a Golf. I got a great deal on the car with the engine having been dis-assembled and cleaned and already magnafluxed. I made arrangements to come to the US to tow the car from North Bend - Sea-Tac (JVL's). I wanted to rent a uhaul tow dolly but was told by JVL that that was a bad idea and instead borrow his friends for a flat of beer. That's where it started to go wrong. I picked up the dolly which was in poor shape, and without any straps or tie downs. No matter, I was told to go to Napa in North Bend once I got there to get straps. Napa was closed and I was stuck. It was late and rather than getting a hotel room, I returned to Canada to go back and do the vehicle move the next day. The next day I picked up the car from Van Bogarts, and transported it to JVL's. By the time that I could leave Vancouver (work obligations) it was in the afternoon. I picked the car up and was in mobile phone contact with JVL enroute. I arrived at his place, it was dark, raining and generally a shitty night. None the less I was happy to see him, to drop the car off to have the engine rebuilt. He was less happy to see me and started complaining that the days of him pushing dead cars off of trailers were past him. I guess I got there during or slightly after his dinner. Much to my dismay, there was no room in his driveway for my car and it was pushed onto the field / lot behind his house. He said he'd remove the belts from the car so they wouldn't get stolen. Needless to say, that I wasn't too happy about having bought this car and with what I thought was an "appointment" to have the engine built... turned out to, pushing my car into a lot where the belts had to be removed to prevent theft. I left John a deposit and was looking forward having a rally car, a child hood dream being realized of racing cars. I'm a building contractor who's worked as an assistant machinist (while in college) in a medical setting fabricating replacement parts for equipment at a cancer clinic. These two "skill sets" require a pretty organized and precise work ethic. When I saw the sense of disarray at JVL's place, it was undoubtedly a red flag. When I recieve an email I answer it immediately, I promptly return phone calls, do what I say, etc... My "fault" could be described as having the desire of people I deal with have similar qualities. I find that when emails or phone calls go un-answered, I follow up with a subsequent email or phone call. Since JVL doesn't have an answering machine, rarely picks up his phone (in my experience), email was the only way to communicate. I'm guilty of bombarding him with emails during the time he had my car. But if he had responded to emails then this wouldn't have happened. Regardless though, I accept responsibility for what JVL has called "endless emails". I dropped the car of in Novemeber to have the engine re-built. My car was at John's place... November, December, January, February, part of March. To have the engine re-built ! I was concerned about my car, my desposit, not having emails answered. Needless to say that when John wanted to get paid before the car was picked up, this was not going to happen due to the lack of trust / comfort factor that had emerged due to unaswered emails and a 4-5 month engine rebuild. Cash on the barrel when the goods are picked up, is how I like to do business. Yes John had to wait to get paid in full and mentioned that this lag time was a disruption in his cash flow as he needed money for other projects. It simply can't be the fault of a single customer that someone doesn't have credit with suppliers to keep the ball rolling. My car was finished, but John never let me know this and left for a trip to China. There it sat "completed". I remember getting excited when John posted on specialstage pics of the engine in the car, and bosted about the build. http://www.specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?p=90416 One small detail that John left out in his thread on Specialstage was that the engine was "pissing" oil. A quart ever couple of days. Who posts pics, brags about the engineering of the engine, how it sounds, etc... all the while concealing that it's pissing oil ? The oil leak was blamed on the "tin" being old. The oil pan was leaking and that appearantly is the customers fault and has nothing to do with the : $2800 rebuild which included 1 piston, guides, head welding, valves, and assembly. John got paid in full ! I got my car, but my belts that John removed accidently got shipped to Bob Olsen who had a Capri getting worked on at Johns place (I don't think Bob loved his JVL experience either). John provided a signed statement that he would replace the belts. The car was transported to Vancouver where I met it, and discovered that it was leaking alot of oil. Bob Olsen shipped an incomplete set of belts that weren't mine, but was what JVL had given him. To this day JVL has not replaced the belts that he agreed to replace, which is one of the reasons I feel that he's dis-honest. He provided a signed statement saying he would, but has not followed through. I tried to get a hold of John by phone and email to discuss the oil leak, but he didn't reply. I told him that if he didn't reply by a certain date that I would post on specialstage. He didn't respond and I started this thread : http://www.specialstage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7897 I have always done business with a handshake, my word is as good as any contract. I'm not a person to settle anything in the courts, and believe that disputes can be solved through dialogue. But both parties have to compromise and give a little. I paid full price for the engine I never got my belts After I had the oil leak repaired I was driving the car and the all of a sudden I lost power. It turned out one of the circlips had dislodged itself and gotton into the combustion chamber. The engine was "done" and not even 1 rally on it. Our dispute spilled over into this forum, which as you know was started by Skye who has an Xratty that was more or less built at Johns place in Sea Tac. I have read countless posts from John about how I threatened to "drop the dime" on Skye and this is why the Sin Bin was created. This isn't accurate. In Skyes own words, "You're locked out of the other Forums for a week or so. THe beatings will continue until morale improves." Nothing to do with "INS". It's simple, the Sin Bin was created because Skye was friends with JVL. Rather that dealing head on with a dispute, picking up the phone and calling your customer (me) to resolve this thing lets make this area of the forum and put him in. The infamous post : *** Skye said : "Morten's been restricted to posting in the Sin Bin.... The beatings will continue until morale improves." I am very happy that you're calling fucking me around a "beating". I just wonder when you get yours if you're going to take it like a man. Edit : You've got a lot balls for someone who is living illegally in the US with Bill (Ali's Dad). You should be careful what you write : "No real danger yet of things getting overwhelming, it's just annoying to have the threat of deportation hanging over your head all the time. I'm not too worried though, I'm not really doing anything wrong, I'm just visiting the USA now, not trying to work. Got lots of money left in the bank to live on until my F4 world domination plans come to fruition". Your F4 server being in Seattle, it could easily be construed that you're working illegally in the US because you have customers on that server. You have been reporting all your PayPal earnings from your sports Cars sites to Revenue Canada right or should they be reported in the US because that's where the server is. But you can't legally work in the US... What a mess ! Are you sponsoring Ali to enter Canada... You'd better make sure you're not breaking any laws in the US or Canada. Remember you can only push so hard until someone starts to push back, and I haven't pushed back yet. I've given you plenty of opportunities to end this Sin Bin non-sense, but to no avail. Skye, it's your move." *** To which Skye responded : *** "Go set up your own forum and fuck off, NOBODY WANTS YOU HERE. You can take your line in the sand and shove it up your ass If you fuck with me or my family because I won't let you post on MY FUCKING FORUM I WILL BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF YOU In REAL LIFE FUCKER GET A LIFE, LOSER" *** Yes I was pissed off about being put into the Sin Bin and not having my issue with addressed or evenly remotely resolved. Was a phone call ever made to the INS or whatever ? NO I am NOT a rat fink, snitch, or anyone of these things. Those who know me, know that I would never "drop a dime" on anyone. Instead I would meet, discuss, and resolve. If you fuck with people online or in R/L, you have to anticipate that not everyone takes everything laying down. I illustrated that Skye had boasted in his blog about something that shouldn't be public and pointed it out. Yes I googled Skye, found his blog, read, and posted... in an attempt to have the sin bin closed. Alluding in humour as I never involve the authorities in ANY dealings past or present. If I was this rat fink that John likes to paint me as, I'm sure I would have "dropped the dime", called King County to discuss JVL long ago. Would I ever, NO ! (regardless of what he posts about me, I know where the line is and I don't cross it) But this is all boring crap and has gone on for too long. What's the core issue ? A shit engine that JVL built, and a set of missing belts. That's it ! Feel free to make your own determinations, judgements, etc... But let's stop posting about it, shall we ? JVL how about you give me a call on the phone and see if we can't resolve this ? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/05/2009 11:54AM by Morten2. |

I love volunteering at rallies, though I've only done it once.
Things I hated: Having to be at headquarters at 5:30 am. Things that was cool: Two free beers at the Parc Expose, Finish Party, and Registration (yes they had beer at registration, smart hey!) Free lunch and free food at finish party. We were in radio contact with the start control so we knew what was going on and knew why the delay was occuring. I was with my friend that I went there with. Grant Hughes |

Gentlemen, While this has been both entertaining and distressing, it does nothing to further the common aim of growing the sport. Robert and Merrilee are actually doing something for the sport. It would be to all our best interests to contribute something positve. Before this thread went to the dogs, there were some very good ideas put forth, keep them coming.
I was a volunteer for nearly 5 years before I just couldn't take it any longer and built a car to run with help from several folks here. Thank You Robert, Dave Clark, Gene and JVL!! I had some of the most frustrating, exciting and frightening experiences of my life in the car. I still enjoy the sport, but from far away at the moment. I will work some events again in the future when we move closer to the action. There were some days as a worker that sucked and it was only the kind words of Thanks from the competitors and the Stage Captains that made up for hanging out in the cold rain all weekend on my nickle. As a competitor I made sure that everytime I saw a worker I Thanked them. It is the small things that make a difference. Well I "worked an event" for the first time at this year's DooWops as Tech inspector for the motorcycles---and even talked the guy who was 1 minute ahead in my first car event back in 1984's Wild West into dragging his bike out and entering. And Dave Dunn was just seconds out of winning it---too much time on Saturday dooing cross-up wheelies, silly sod. It was fun and then Robert and I went and asked gene if there was anything else we could do since we were there so we spent 2 days out in the snow as Radio guys. it was fun. And I made a point to thank Gene for asking. Had he not asked, I would not have had the chance to do the weekend from that side of things. I've said it before, we can all contribute in the areas we are best at. Some do this other do that, some turning wrenches, some do cages, some are organisers, some are "the show" and drive cars, some as a last resort, make things. I was talking to Robert and he was commenting that it seems we're once again putting together a good pool of talent here in the NW of guys willing to help those who are trying to help themselves so I drug out that old motto from the past which seems especially appropriate now: "From each according to their needs, to each according to their abilities" Seems fitting.
