formal introduction
May 01, 2009 02:49PM
My name is Brian, today marks my halfway to fifty'th birthday.
It is common courtesy at my home forum, Mainevescene.com that all new members say hello.
Hello.
i have been lurking here on RA for awhile, rally is not new to me and neither is automotives. i worked for a fellow a few years ago who went by the name sandy, in the late 70's he raced a rally preped saab 99. he is soley responsible for my curiousity.
i recently took advantage of two good deals. a rotten gti with rally x bits and a 4 dr golf no longer loved by a tweaker. the two have married to one. (my landlord is soo thrilled) i have spares and intend to get the golf inline with a maine state inspection. ( if you did not know, they are tough) however i plan to drive the golf to and from the FEW rally x events we have here in new england. and on all kinds of private roads in between. thats all about me you need to know,

Dave I see a GTX in that pic... Direct contradiction to your GTX love fest comment.
You just lovin' these things aren't you. Filling RA with all kinds of GTX propaganda.

Welcome aboard.

What's your plans?
ABA Tallblock 16v?
VW Motorsport dogbox?

Are you going quit your day job and go on the Circuit and win fame and fortune?
No problem getting all sorts of press if you are a has been in any other sport or just filthy rich.
Got any You-tube videos of you burning up piles of tires.
Remember! if whatever you do isn't on the Intra-webz then it never happened.

Can you say Hi! To Sandy, and tell him he's a lightweight for not running that nice 99 and kicking all the VWs back under the rug?

Going to do any ice racing up at New Meadows in the winter?

Ahhh, the New Meadows Ice Racing Association. Only competed once (blown clutch killed attempt number 2, 12 inches of water on lake killed attempt 3, and Miguel Blanco hasn't been keeping us in the loop!), but damn those enduros are great bang for the buck!!!

Our $50 Saab (The General Leif, note Swedish flag paint on roof...and we sold the Shelby wheels that came on it for $400!) that was to run in 06 or 07 before we got rained out. Car ended up in Saab yard nearby, never retreived it (Mark Mason?):

Eduardo Mayhem and Miguel Blanco's Casa de Ardillas Sentra SE-R:

Fiasco's last stand, ended in clutch disintegration during first practice lap.

I have a few more pics somewhere in a stack of CDs...but you get the idea.

You see John, the reason you get crapped on everywhere is that it took you nearly half your post to get to 'welcome aboard' and you simply couldn't resist promoting you BS (Bitchin Suspenders) first.

Technically Keith, that's how introductions go. You tell a little about yourself maybe and talk about stuff in common.
Me: "Sweet you have a Golf! I have Merkur rally car, but I have a few friends with Golfs and two of my close friends own Salta Motorsports, which is a big Audi/VW service shop and rally prep shop here in Denver. They've built like 20-30 rally cars in the past few years, many Golfs, some sick Rabbits, an Audi or three, and lots of Subarus. Occasional random stuff like BMW E30s and a Ford Mustang GT500 (or whatever from the 60s) for La Carrerra. Actually that Mustang has a sick transmission!"

Welcome Brian!

I am a VW driver as well. Let's see some pictures!

About John........he is a real character! I consider him my friend. He is very generous with sharing his experience and knowledge. Give him a call. He will talk your ear off but you will learn something. Other than a remarkable memory for facts and figures, John is just like everyone else. He has the same strengths and weaknesses that we all have. You will always know what is on his mind and wear you stand with him.

Robert.

Robert.
