So, who is going to be at Targa West?
May 08, 2009 08:49PM
Looks like its a year away in BC, should be an awesome event.

might have to dig the change out of the couch to pay for the ....five....thousand....dollar....entry fee.

would be worth it though, would be a blast. Anyone else thinking about hitting it up?

Targa is a crock and a rip off. You could do all the PNW events for the cost of Targa once. Similarily, you could do the full Ontario/Quebec series for the cost of the regular Targa. You want to race on tarmac, go to Tennessee. Better 'rally' roads and still would be way cheaper. Hell, store the rig out there for a short period and fly back out and do West Virginia and you've done two amazing rallies and you're still ahead.

DUDE ... don't forget about the Western Canada Rally Championship! You could do that for the cost of Targa and 5 of 6 are 'real' rallies with 2 pass recce and pace notes!

Targa events and performance events are different and attract different competitors as a rule. Targa Newfoundland is neither a crock nor a ripoff, you just don't see the attraction to it. (It's cheaper and more legal than Canonballs or Bull(shit)run ... which is closer to their target market)

yeah, i guess it is still up in the air if the event will happen.

when compared to an east coast competition, i think it would be fairly cost effective to run Tagra if you are based in the PNW. I have ball parked fuel to the east coast and back to around $3500. By the time you add two RA entry fees (for two events like RWV and RT) and all the missed work from the driving, that adds up to 5k pretty quick. Targa fuel costs will be just a hundred bucks or so, and if i con some codriver into paying for some of the entry fee, i could be a lot cheaper.

i think it would be a total blast to do all that tarmac.

i also think there is about a 11.9753245% chance the mazduh would last the whole event without breaking....

i computated 12.395% chance with the mazduh...(rounded off on that figure btw.)

Dammit Jack let's you and me prove that old Mazduhs can stay in the hunt for a whole event, and increase that figure all the way up to at least 16.8796%.

Gotcha, do they run dirt hill climbs in your area?

nope - closest hill climb would be Knox Mountain... and they actively don't like rally cars there. (something to do with too much cutting)

Is it dirt?

A dirt hill climb would be good fun, especially if ran up & down!!!

Nope, paved (which which is why they've added a 'no cut' rule, or so I've heard.) and they only run uphill.

I don't doubt that hill climbs are good fun, competitive and challenging ... they just aren't rally though.
