So, im just curious, if rally was never a spectator sport.... What were all the people lining the roads doing every time I see RAC videos from the 70's, or group b from the 80s, or WRC from the 90s.... Or when I was at Oregon trail here in 09?

Did they get lost and just happen upon a rally?

Come to one of the western Canada rallies. Stay at my place. I'll make it worthwhile... No perviness intended. I live in the center of at least 3 rallies a year, and have spare rooms....

Best thing to do is ignore Jens, just because he says anything doesn't mean it is connected to anything in the real world.
Indeed, obviously most of what he writes is completely un-reated to the real world.

Of course in the whole world rally has always been a spectator sport.
people travel across whole continents to watch events, camp for days, stay up all night, and sometimes its out of control buy no sane person would ever imagine that they are a burden or evil or not needed.
That's what they call "crazy talk".

He doesn't want spectators because they'd see him crawling along in maybe mid range in second gear max before slamming throttle shut in abject terror.
