Anders,

Yeah, I know. Well, you've probably noticed that

This type event seems like it would be great for many that are caught in the middle of the rally/tsd issue. For some reason I always want to say std instead of tsd, go figure. I love to rally/drive fast cars, I dont like TSDs.

Anyway, for me rally has always been a fun per dollars issue. I love to be competitive but im not getting a seccond loan on the house just to race. I think over the last couple of years peope have quit racing because their equipment is outdated and the price to race is plain nuts. I look at it this way, I could race an event every other month or I could buy a boat, bike, car, ect ect ect every other month! Its just a lot of money going out the door and when you step out for a few seasons it takes a lot of money to get back in and justify it.

This type of event could be a winner in many ways. Just think of all those rally cars you use to see out on stage that no longer run events. What happened to the cars? The drivers? Well I still have my car and it sits in the garage and looks cool! Not the reason I have it, I bought it to race. It just need a place to race and one that doesent cost an arm and a leg. I think many former competeters are in the same boat.

The other issue of lower speeds and less safety equipment would also be a plus. If I need to buy all the latest and greatest safety equipment to race, well it isnt going to happen! And PLEASE, dont tell me im going to kill myself without it!
We have all seen the drunks on utube who fall on their heads and seem to make it out alive! ( this is a joke for those that think you can compare car racing to drinking and falling on your head )

If you can come up with an event to run your car, be nice to the pocket book and be entertaining to the drivers I think people will show up. We all know the biggest problem is roads and finding someone to sanction it for a reasonable price!

I started rallying in the UK eons ago. It was called Road Ralling. Roads were open to the public, no helmets, no mandatory safety equpment. They usually started at 11pm and ran through until 6 - 7am. Usually about 250miles. Apparently it was timed at 60mph, but no one could make the bogie time, so you drove as fast as you could. Cars got wrecked, but I don't remember anyone getting hurt... probably wouldn't call it safe these days though, but it's what got me hooked on rallying.
I'd love to see some endurance type events... but I'm unlikely to enter one on the wrong coast :-)
