It's called "you left the door open" with your statements about head NOT buried in sand..

The way langue works, it almost suggest the question, Wee just where DO you have your head buried?"
Subtleties of language.
It's humor,
Again you seem to be so gaddam serious about repeating things which are either simply obvious, or are very strongly a matter of personal opinion.

And the thread is not RUINED, the little meaningless chit chatty crap is not even a distraction..

Have you ever considered talking in less extreme-centric ways, one thing or another?

Well that's a problem when few things are really black/white, good/bad, for us/against us simplistic.

Did you immigrate to Canada from the US South?

I think it is possible and indead a good idea to not drive over your head. I also belive driving at 9/10 will make you better and will make your speed improve even when staying at 9/10, there is no need to drive at 11/10 to learn or progress.

I am a hell of a lot better pilot then I was 4 years ago and I NEVER explore even close to 9/10 in my plane - the consiquences are just to big. At the other end of the spectrum I have pushed mtb and small sail boats well into the 12/10th range but doing an endo in a 14 foot boat on a warm lake in june is not a big deal...

John it's humor and it depends on tone,
so if we look at the sentance 'I do not have my head buried in the SAND' it almost invites a question "Oh so just where DO you have you your head buried?

Are we supposed to self censure ourselves because somebody comes here after years and wants to act all offended all the time and insult people who have donated hundreds and hundreds of hours over the years helping dozens and dozens of people?

Humor IS allowed under our "user agreement".

Alas John....

The internet lacks tone and inflection.

I had to laugh when I saw that pic. That is a good one.

I also get a laugh at how quickly discussions turn into the flame-fest.

Good point, I think driving within yourself can make you faster in less time, when you are concentrating on being smooth, taking a good line, and making sure you are working well with the co-driver. Plus less crashes means more seat time, less money fixing the car and thus more rallies.

I had someone tell me when I first starting rallying that I think makes a lot sense. There are two ways to get good. Drive really fast and learn to drive slower after the DNFs add up, or you can drive slow and learn to drive faster. It all depends on how big your wallet is.

Andrew I think you touch on a good point too. How fast or slow you drive really has little to do with how you improve. It is concentrating on the details and improving each such as being in the right gear or always geting the braking point right that make us faster, not bombing into a turn to see if we can get away with it.

I have been ridding motorcycles for just over a year now and I am getting a lot better, in the turns my speed is up, might be as much as twice as fast on a freeway onramp type turn then I was 6 months ago. Like in the plane there are big problems with going down so pushing the limits is not a good idea. I have been working on placing the bike on the right line, how to shift my weight, when to brake/shift, how to use the power to change the line etc. I am now a lot faster then friends that use to be faster then me, because I have taken a systimatic approach to improving one little thing at a time.

In the long run reality always wins.
