Rally Mexico 09, an example of good thinking, well done promotion
July 10, 2009 01:22AM
Looks very interesting, read the details at
http://www.rallyofnations.com/index.php

It begs the question:

How could a bunch of Mexicans do such a great job, attract so many foreign entries from around the world, have $75,000 dollars prize money with this type of help:
Quote

The organizing committee has set a program to contribute for teams’ freight costs to Mexico and back as well as import and logistics costs.

The Rally of Nations is set to become one of Mexico’s rallying highlights for the years to come.

A total price purse of $75,000 USD will be awarded:
- $ 500.00 USD to the winning Crew per stage won.
- $ 5,000.00 USD to the winning Team for each day.
- $ 50,000.00 USD to the winning Team of Rally of Nations.

I mean isn't the "premier" Series like 100% American Good ol' boy red-blooded, grain fed, Mid-western Fly-over state, HEARTLAND AMERICANS?

And aren't they PROFESSIONALS????

And isn't America Number 1?

Then how do our Southern cousins do THIS in light of our series?

I have no idea why they are what they are.

Maybe you could explain.

Or, let's wait for some stage times.

That's OK, joke all you want, people say I'm the funniest guy they know, [joke] but you have numerous times told me to shut up about how appallingly slow the "Sharp end of the Stick" in North America is RELATIVE TO MANY OTHER PLACES, and it didn't seem like you were joking THEN....
So this is your chance to rub my nose in it and prove you're as smart as you claim to be.
[/joke]

This event SHOULD be fun to follow.

No. Not at all. It was a joke about how you usually are bashing Pastrana and Block (US rally drivers) in other countries events. This is an event in Mexico with US drivers, (Not Block or Pastrana) and you havent said anything. And yes, nothing has happened, stage time wise.

However, jokes are never funny when you have to explain them.

Why would I try to rub your nose in anything? I'm not that kind of person. I don't really care how smart you think I think I am.

JVL.
Did you see the entry fees?

The payout is laughable by NASCAR standards, which btw is the premier motorsport in the US. The citizens, fans, spectators determine what is the popular sports, not sanctioning bodies. You continually jam RA for trying to raise the bar here yet you applaud Mexico for $10,000 entry fees?? You can't have it both ways.

So it's 8 or 9 times the US entry fee for the factory supported teams.

The payout is Five Hundred times the RALLY AMERICA payout per stage
FIVE THOUSAND THE RALLY AMERICA PAYOUT
AND FIFTY THOUSAND TIMES the Rally America payout for the overall win.

And come on you know you'll get no argument about NASCAR being the Premier series.
But you can't seriously measure the two sports, the decades and by now billions spent promoting what has become in the last 25 years a steamroller, vs our piddly little sport.

The point is what an impressive and OBVIOUSLY EFFECTIVE ---judging from the ENTRY LIST---job these fellows down there have done versus the meager list of buy-a-ride guys here.

Come on Gene, last time we saw a start list the broad was Olympus '86.

As usual rather than argue, can somebody maybe STUDY----once the Idaho and Mexico action is over---discreet elements that saeem to work down there.
\Our cultures are not TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO differtent, and dirt is dirt, cars are cars.

Not trying to argue (this time). I was told today that the payout is quite small by off road racings standards also. Mexico seems to really like off road racing. I believe there is a big effort from several sources to bring motorsports in. Probably for the money that is supposed to come with it. What ever the root cause is, in the states the majority of the people like closed course events. Honestly it isn't going to change anytime soon. RA has spent a bunch of money and time trying to get things going. If it got to the payout stage then the little guys (our guys) wouldn't be involved anymore . I didn't see what I would consider 'regional' cars in the Mexico start list. Possible they are there and I didn't realize it.

The big question is where did the money come from. Government had something to do with it I hear.
