Holy shit. You can see what happened there. The brakes don't do much when the wheels are in the air.

I wore a hans for the first time this weekend and this is the first time that my neck has been sore from an off. I didn't have a header like in the video though. Maybe I'm just getting old.

The hans devices (like all superfluous saftety devices) primarily aid in keeping underfunded teams away from events.

Be safe. Don't rally!

so every time I see a wreck like this, I try to take a little driving lesson away from it.

I see he has hand written stage notes (or printed stage notes with a lot of hand written edits)....I assume they did some kind of recce (but maybe not?)....was he just coming into this corner way too hot? or a right turn over crest at speed w/a brick wall on the outside should have had some kind of caution in the notes? That was practically a chicane...

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. Being new, If i would have like bazillion caution r2 so I slow down BEFORE the crest, not try to slow down/setup as i go over it.

Yeah I don't like watching these either but do, to try and avoid adding to them. The thing I take away from this is that I hate crests even more than I did before...If those were my notes they'd have had SLOW THE FUCK DOWN written all over 'em right about there. If those were recce notes they really screwed the pooch. Damn, crest into downhill right bend rock wall inside don't cut, triplecaution you're gonna DIE seems like barely enough...
As it is, it seems like I've developed a pussyish habit of mashing the brakes at a blind crest so as to try and plant the front end, the sole exception being the one on Smith Creek, since it's in the middle of a nice long straight. I'm perfectly OK with losing a bit of time at a crest; it's fun to make it up in places where you can see ahead a bit.

i think if you had a caution every time there was a brick wall in a euro tarmac rally...every turn would be a caution...

yeah, i totally slowed down for that smith creek crest. we are all such wussy drivers in north America...
