Took my dad to the IHRA Northern Nationals a couple weeks ago. The day was not back to back Top Fuel, it was interspersed with a lot of the Sportsman classes.
Taking care of the locals. In fact, there was a $20,000 check for top Sportsman. Nothing for the Top Fuel...they get paid by their sponsors. The big money presentation and fat check was for the little guys and man, they were trying hard.
Likewise, we went to a sprint car race at Hartford, a dirt track last month. I hadn't been to a dirt track in a long time...many years.
To my surprise, the late models (locals) put on a better show than the winged sprints! (visiting feature)
