I don't have enough information at hand to be able to reasonably second guess experienced and dedicated organizers.

That said I had to stop an event after 8 of ~115km because we depleted our ALS ambulance resources after an accident on the second stage. The event had the same costs to put on so we couldn't afford to refund the entry fees. There was still a winner, we still had a banquet, posted scores and gave out hardware.

A slight difference, I think, is that events in Canada are organised by not-for-profit clubs. To be able to absorb the costs of an event that is cut short for any reason the club would have to artificially increase the entry fees of the rest of the events they hold to build a reserve fund. (perfectly legit for a not-for-profit btw) THAT means increasing entry fees, which is a bad thing.

Today we run a $450 entry fee, 20 car regional and come out ~$400 in the black if we don't compensate volunteers (route master, course cars, etc.) for fuel or other minor expenses.

I filled one our as well. Constructive comments are key I think...nothing will get better unless both the good and the bad (with reasons why and how to fix) are collected and dealt with.

I know the Clerk of the Course (L. Mark Stone) and I'm sure he would consider all points. He's very interested in all constructive criticism. smiling smiley

Just be honest, what are they going to do, blackball you from being a volunteer?

...so is the brew pub.

They're both in co-hoots with Lise, your doctor and the owner of Tinas.

done, i had little to do with the controls as i was assigned but... i threw in a hint for simple logistics.

not asking for a circus but imagine.

spectators should have a killer location (no pun intended)

RA merchandise truck with schwag.

a roach coach.

some shitters.

trash and recycle bins, (beer bottles throughout the woods could pay for the shitters no problem.)

maybe a central location for spectators to get current information/maps/directions etc.

from what i heard RA is in trouble, why not TRY to dig out of this hole?

NEFR, don't work it unless you want to get really pissed off!

Bumping this up from the dead.

I wonder why these dumb f@cks are screaming for workers again.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

And I still get out of bed in the morning, usually. ;-) So I am as dumb as them. Maybe even dumber. It's a wonder I remember to breath.

But this year I'm running Robin Hood. The costs are lower and I can fill the trunk with beer and fireworks.

i'am on the fence in regards to volunteerism. i did volunteer, but as NEFR would have it, no communication has been sent out, if you need workers the workers need work.

So as a former volunteer you haven't even gotten an email that said "hey, the rally is coming up, please volunteer?" Has there been _any_ recruiting?
