How common are Xratty's in the PNW U-Pull-its?
August 20, 2009 09:18PM
Reason I ask is that I haven't seen another one down here since I got mine a couple of years ago. Not a single one that is until finding an 89 in the junkyard nearby. It's rough, but there are some parts that might be worth pulling before we move back to the PNW (in two weeks) if they are rare enough. Unfortunately the windsheild is smashed, as is the hood.

Spending more than the car is worth to ship it out there... unless anyone happens to be making the trip from Mississippi to Seattle with an empty trailer any time soon!?

Jason,

My general impression is that they are getting rare fast. Unless you know someone who has been socking them away (some people have), don't count on finding too many in the JY **when you happen to need that part**.

That's my opinion of course.

I know of one that has been parked in the same place in Bellingham for at least a few years without moving.

I could inquire if needed.

I agree, 3 years ago there were 1 or 2 at the local u-pull it seemed like all the time. I have not seen one there in a year. But, the PNW Merkur community has a very large stash of parts scattered around between a few guys. I have 2 parts cars myself, ready to send 1 shell to the crusher, just need to strip a few more parts off of it.I think the only parts to have around are rear suspension stuff. Everything else is available new, or used off of a different platform.

Thanks for the posts. Just trying to figure out if it is worth my time and $$ etc to pull parts like doors and back hatches off this car only to then ship them across country in two weeks.

Well if you're planning on smacking the car up in a good days use, I'd add some body parts to that list winking smiley

There is a black one at the U-pull it in Boring OR. I already pulled the perfect dash and windshield though. It still had a complete body. OB

Why is it that all the good parts end up out in sandy or boring? Seems like all the junk american cars fill up the tigard yard when im out there. Cant even find a good mustang anymore.

one of the Bummers of the Merkur is ALL the panels except the doors are welded on, Front wings included. Poor planning on my part has the door bolts pretty hidden behind the cage, making door removal very difficult.

Apparently there is another 'video' on the way ... once that is out the MkII will be commonly cool. (It's already cool in the rally community)

That's just like my NSU! I like welded on fenders from a purity of design standpoint.. but they sure don't make life easier. Those germans!

Jason,

As soon as you are settled in out here we should have a meet and greet. In other words will will flip you a bunch of shit while we sit around and drink beer!
