Who the fuck cares? When people realize that one's money is their own to spend whether its on labor for race cars, street cars, bolt on parts, hookers, booze, blow, Johns Suspension, DMS, Hot Bits, Reigers, RS SP, WHATEVER they spend it on... The world will be a better place. The more people bitch and moan because someone "buys in" to a certain car culture "rally car", drift car", rat rod", "road race," or whatever, the more pathetic it gets. As long as the owners of the car likes what they do, who care's how they got their? The owners certaintly dont... why do all the douche bags?

Oh... and I haven't hired anyone to do anything on my car except the engine machining.

Open class (AWD TURBO) is still way more expensive, but I think Open light, or the newer golfs/focus/Mazda3s, the hunduyi RWD thing (Tiberon maybe? I cant remember what its called) are much better options then my 25 year old corolla, or a merkur. Volvo's I agree they would make good cars (because of the abundance of shells and body panels) if this sport wasnt as expensive as it is. (There IS a degree of quality and image that is REALLY lacking in rally... and that makes it hard to find individual sponsors. No one wants to back a 25 year old car that looks 40 years old and put together with a jackhammer. I don't care if the driver is the prodigal child of Sebastien Leob and Ari Vartinen... it's not going to happen. Remember Marketing? [well maybe not as a lot of people here on RA can't figure out thats what all of Ken Block's videos are.... ] )

Rally Car:
Building a Merkur

"There IS a degree of quality and image that is REALLY lacking in rally..."

That is exactly what Draws me to Rally. Everyone has an equal chance, no matter what you drive, or how good the build quality is. I am building probably a middle of the road car, but there will be no reason I can't have as much fun as a guy in a $100,000 Subaru. Road racing, not so much...... I don't plan to be sponsored, or expect to be. Don't really care. My car is plain white, and probably will stay that way.

The only form of sponsorship I've gotten has been discounted parts. Usually at or above cost. I do feel that with a car with a large following/aftermarket sponsorship opportunities are greater. VW, Subaru, Mitsu, etc.
I also have some big ideas brewing...

Sean M nails it, how much more fun is the wonder car then the basic rally car?

There is a price point in there somewhere and Miller with a neat BMW rally cross car may have more fun at a rally cross then someone with an uber fancy $100K SPGT car at a rally. Miller can drive his car to the event and really needs not spend hrs and hrs organizing, recruiting friends to service, booking hotels, ordering a drum of fuel, finding time to mount 15 tires etc. Flogging a BMW around a field can be a hell of a lot of fun too because one can drive way over the limit with little worry - where at a rally most wisely stick to 9/10 or so because going off into the trees at 70 MPH would hurt.

There is a price point that needs to be met to have the fun but that price point is a lot lower then most of us are lead to believe.

Miller I will look to see about Paul's school and coming down but I think there is a low chance of it.

Colorado has a huge rallycross scene of people who have all realized that same thing. They typically beat most of the rally guys when we show up at rallycross.
Finding a way to balance a normal life and a stage rally life is not easy. I know my previous relationships with women I've had has not allowed that, though it is totally doable, it takes a special woman.

I still want to start Volvo Cross someday. Like Euro Rallycross but with really simple, basic spec NA Volvo 240s.

One of the reasons I like the BMW as a potential stage rally car is that it's pretty decent out of the box. Looks okay, good dimensions, decent power stock, decent brakes, good clutch LSD with decent final drive is available too.

I'm selling the rest of my BMW because my engine screwed up.
I was thinking of buying an engine, but I gave up looking for it.
so I'm pretty much selling everything else
Transmission is fully functional -$300 OBO
Differential - $150
Original rims, they're BBS- $100
Steering wheel is stock
The body has been sitting outside for a while, so it needs a retouch, if anyone wants it.... we'll settle a reasonable price
It is the Racing Dynamics Trim
