Which is why a rally car should have something like this.

That is what I get for having cars that had the spring right above the center line of the wheel...

Something to remember.

Derek:

You really should change driving wheels and have fun anyhow, instead of worrying about a high strung ubergolf.

An E30 325i costs the same as a Golf, is about 190hp with a chip with stock reliability. Weight can be gotten down below 2400. 4.1 R&P and factory LSD readily available from the boneyard. Etc.

Re: BMW specs

I'm pretty sure it'll just take the right car with the right driver and the E36 and E30 BMWs will become the new Golf in the US.
Then again, it doesn't have that strange devoted following that VW's somehow have.
Funny comment talking about BMWs the other night, someone said, yeah but owning a BMW you'd just look like a douchebag. I countered that there were definitely more douchebags in Subarus than BMWs. The response back, true. So true.
Definitely a sign of going to four Rally America events this year. smiling smiley

I can't explain it, but there is something I intrinsically do not like about the E30s though.
Bill Caswell's that he entered Ojibwe and Rally Colorado in he bought built for $500.

Grant, it all depends on your definition of douchebag.

There are a lot of douche's driving subarus... but the biggest bags of douche are driving old ass 2wd cars. A lot of drifters, a lot of VW guys, a lot of non drifting corolla guys... a LOT of the "old car following" people are douchebags. I really hate the "If you cant weld/wrench/fab/X/Y/Z then you shouldn't own this car" mentality, which unfortunately most of the non new car groups have.

By the way, is anyone going to answer Miller's question? Or just keep going off on tangents?

Wilson I plan to make a return to RWD with my next rally car, it will likely be a BMW and as I am over 40 now, work in a fancy pancy job as a real estate developer I might as well have a car for douchbags cause a lot of people think I am one. All you need to do is read the local alternitve papers and local blogs to hear all about my aledged evil ways.

The way you drive a car is way more important than what you drive in my opinion.
I despise Neons and think it's the largest trailer park chick car ever. But damn if I'm not really stoked everytime Lauchlin's getting near while driving it.

Then again I drive a trailer park white trash right wing racist red neck car.

So is there any rear suspension differences between the coupe/sedan e36s and the hatchback thing other than rates and shocks which you would replace on a rally car anyhow?

Andrew I think the whole setup in the back of the stubby is different than the coupe/sedan.

This site claims it's different.
http://www.zvolution.com/Z3Faq/suspension/suspension.htm

From what I've seen in pics, looks like the E36 has multilink rear instead of the semi-trailing arm style on the E30 and Z3 coupe things.
