Camara men do what they do knowing full well that they put themselves in harms way.

The more experienced ones probably only work stages later in the event :-)

I can only imagine what people think when I come flying by them at full lock on the shoulder in the Starlet on the interstate in a straight away.

You don't drive in the WRC "just for fun". It is an entertainment and advertising business. Teams and sponsors want results. I assume that he bought all or part of his drive. I wonder how long he and his sponsors can hold on to see if he can make the quantum leap in skill from Rally America to WRC.

So what if he bought any or all of it? Would you not do the same if you were in his shoes? To somehow think that his love of rally is any less because he's rich is nonsense. We're all 'gentleman racers' anyway. Yeah he might get stomped in the WRC but so what. And yes, I truly do think he's doing this for fun. Just like the rest of us.

true, but think about all the press Ford's already got from this with just the rumors....now the fact that they actually 'stole' Block from Subaru.....think of all the fanboi's that will now be watching (along with the rest of the world) to see how Block will do across the pond.....guaranteed exposure.

As they say in the advertising business, any press is good press.

"Block hopes to become the first American to compete full time in the WRC, which is the rally equivalent to NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series."

Erhhh.... how's that?
How many NASCAR Sprint Cup series event do you get outside the US of A?

Christ.... sorry to say that to a bunch of 'mericans that I do like - but that above statement sorta adds to the impression that europeans have, that Americans see's USA as "the world".

Come ON... there's quite a few countries outside your 50-something states. Calling NASCAR Sprint Cup a world championship is ridiculous.

Ah - that felt better - sorry to bitch about it to you guys. Being into rallying you have a much broader perspective on the world than what the article implies that the writer has. But boy did I just HAVE to mention it :-).

Sprint cup is to Circle track as WRC is to Rally as F1 is to open wheel. It's not so much that it's a "world championship" Its that it's a pinnacle.
