Alex. Sorry to hear that. Went through the same thing myself in early 2008. Really did help me to get my car finished though and spend some time figuring out what I really want in a partner. Now I have an amazing girlfriend that's everything I wanted plus way more. It'll be hard at beginning, but you'll probably end up happier in the long run.

Biggest thing holding me back was a small thing in my back.

I bought a old legacy for 500 exactly 1 year ago with the intention of running at Wild West which is only an hour south of me.

Spent the spring trolling the ebay, forums, craigslist much like Jon Burke finding only the sickest most flatbrimmed deals on suspensions, intercoms and barely used rally tires. Spent the summer in the garage prepping the shell, taking it all apart, welding in mounting points, finding even nastier hella flatbrimmed deals. Then two months before WW I tweaked my back, was pissed I couldn't work on the car. Ended up slipping disks and did some surgery bye bye rally car money.

But I made it out of bed enough during the winter to get the motor and trans built and ready to drop in. T-minus 3 months to Idaho Rally, enough time to get a cage and sort the issues.

^^ good luck man....I just got done with m y 2nd round of 'facet injections' in my lower back...doing better, but not 100%. Next step is to zap some sensory nerves where the Dr's are pretty sure the pain is coming from.

LOL @ "sickest most flatbrimmed deals " hellz yes! (my most flatbrimmed deal this year was only $750 for a once used carbon fiber HANS with quick release straps from another rally-ist....schwing!!)

Get flatbrimmeder. I bought a pro-model HANS with sliding tethers and an additional set of non-counterfeit pro anchors for $650 brand new from a HANS retailer.

But I did just buy a non-wrecked and completely unrusted '95 Subaru coupe that still runs and drives (except in reverse) for $400. That might have been a bad deal...

i dont know if they did it wrong, but it was probably one of my more painful experiences i have had. Each needle started in my middle back and was worked into my spine / hip area taking about 30 minutes per needle (2 injections total).

and it is just is going to come back worse, treat CAUSES, not SYMPTOMS

If your spine is grinding on itself, not being able to feel it will let it grind harder.

just sayin'

And as we've seen the crap doesn't get better after a while all by itself.

If I were to start wearing crisp DC hats with the flattest of brims, would that get me closer to rallying? Would I be more inclined to find these flat-brimmiest deals the rest of you speak of? Or would I just paint my car blue and throw a set of polished 20s on it?

I've heard those hats can change a
person, personally I wouldn't mess
with that shit. 20's are a gateway...
