I just like the r4e's cuz they last more longerer. Take a while to warm up but that's just good exercise till they do.

you said you've been hooning and ditch hooking through 2 feet of snow.
I say you have snow packed in your wheels and it takes a bit of heat to clear the snow/water off your rotors.
the water can absorb a lot of heat.

noticed the same thing in a saab i drove for a while.
drag the brakes every now and then, and see if the snow packed wheels theory heats up.

Snow and ice have a huge impact on brakes, not because they're cold, but because they're slippery. Unless you're Swedish (and living in studland), you don't have enough grip to get the brakes to tarmac or gravel temperatures. That's the real reason you might want different pads.

Snow and ice have never had much impact on brakes for me. Touch the pedal, brakes lock, engine stalls, and car goes straight into snow bank. Codriver screams "not again". I don't need special pads fot that! I just leave the Porterfields on for that trick. I don't use much pad material at winter events.

Yeah, I don't (drive much), especially in the winter. It's not safe. School buses and my own van and my dog have attacked me. My dog continues to try and run me off the road. Not to even begin mentioning all the snowbanks, trees and rocks.

Once, years ago, at band camp, I was run over by a car I had just sold. Never sell a car to a high school buddy, get him (and yourself) drunk and accept a challenge to race a motorcycle against a car. I was leading until I got into a little jam.

Damn, I've been run over numerous times by other moto-cross bikes, been run over a good number of times by my own bike, but only drove over my own foot with my own car and it was in snow kinda smooshed it into the snow.
