Robert,

That is an old picture. They now have roads going through the oval, basically everything you can imagine for corners. They run it as two separate events (morning and afternoon) and change the track up for each. For 20 bucks there really isn't anything better.
The company is very accommodating and they even make burgers for us at lunch and bring out the water truck when the track gets dusty.

Here is a video of last year www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1kZ7rq7Nyc

That is me in the new WRX. I dont think I will be bringing that back it gets pretty rough for a new car. I dont like to replace too many inner fender wells LOL.

I took my airplane out and did a little scoping out at 145 MPH and 4000 feet. What is the point of having a plane if it is not used to help friends out.

This looked promising:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=monroe,+wa&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=60.158465,106.083984&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Monroe,+Snohomish,+Washington&ll=47.803528,-121.906099&spn=0.022887,0.103598&t=h&z=14&layer=c&cbll=47.796303,-121.926164&panoid=Gs1FsHvOo-QFptOZDtdOsA&cbp=11,45,,0,5

Now hard to tell about gates from 4000 feet but just north of here where the power lines split, one going west from the north south line looked to be some really nice dead end roads with no houses.

The big clearings have a few houses now but north of them there was nothing I could see.

This whole area looked very promising lots of dead ends and no homes. Roads looked to be in good shape and not covered in snow. There is more elevation change than this photos show the lake Hannan is on top of a 2000 foot high hill or so with the land droping fast to the north and west, there is a wide valley to the east that then starts to rise into real foot hills east of Stosell Creek.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=monroe,+wa&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=60.158465,106.083984&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Monroe,+Snohomish,+Washington&ll=47.796955,-121.880093&spn=0.050912,0.103598&t=h&z=14

Next time I should have someone with me to make notes and it would be better to make the flight in better light, it was an odd flat light this afternoon.

Holy crap, what do you do that pays for an airplane and flight costs?!?! Thats awesome.

Dad sold the kit plane he was building (started before we moved, and hadn't worked on it since sad smiley ) due to checking into the costs these days, and we couldn't afford it

lol

I just checked the map links. I've been on Lake Fontal. It goes to a bunch of cabins and it also splits off to a really creepy religious camp in the middle of nowhere. There are also LOTS of gates on the road.

I have some flight time, and would go with you. What are you flying, and where do you keep it?

Well since I've been navigating aircraft since I was 5 and I know ther area so well, I guess I'll have to do it.

I own a Cessna 180-H that I mostly keep on floats at Kenmore Air, North end of Lake Washington.

Here the line crew is putting my plane in the water yesterday. First time I have flown in 5 weeks since my knee surgery, still a little hard to press the rudder pedals with the bad knee during the take off run but I managed. All panes single engine prop planes have a left turn tenancy during take off that must be corrected with lots of right rudder.

Google map finally has an updated view of the track on our land that gets very little use.
-------------
What's the reason for this? Is it too soft for rally cars or what?

That seems a rather indelicate way to deal with something as light as a plane. I would need several drinks before wanting to run a forklift in that application...

I would estimate that 90% of the course is hard like concrete. There are only 3 or 4 corners or short sections of track that have a tendency to get soft but there are also turnouts which you can run to bypass these areas. Usually not a problem if you maintain your speed. Or you can run solely on areas based on what your trying to train or test such as high speed straights or corners, straight line braking, etc. Track has been here for 3 years and we have run 2 races a year on it but so far no interest from the rally community as a training/testing area.

'Tiny' will do a bang-up job of utterly blocking access to any road that we got a bunch of fools onto. Turn Tiny 90 degrees to the road and not only is the road blocked but no-one will be able to see WTF is happening on the other side.

Diamond Jim and I spent all day Sunday up at the Walker Valley ORV area scouting roads. There were a lot of bikes and quads there! 99% of the roads are not usable for us for a number of reasons. We did however find two short sections that could be suitable. BR-4609 is about 1.5 miles and BR-46 is about 2 miles long. The roads are at approximately 2000 ft elevation and have western exposure. There is two inches of snow in the shade and clear gravel in the sun. Both sections have a moderate grade and plenty of medium corners. On the negative side, they both have deep ditches, exposure and some stumps. Beggars can't be picky. I need to call the DNR to ask about the gate opening times.
