Pete Gunningham won w POWER alone! Thanks to his connection to Honda he had every engine/body combination available and he went to the biggest beast - Prelude - and won the championship.
I got taste of it during Press Stage at Olympus rally. The engine was awesom! Pete tip-toed through turns (no suspension / grip to speak of) and opened up on the straights. During rally that was enough to beat others in Stock class, and quite many in Open. That succer revved to 9200! Stock, or near stock
PS. You guys have heavy cars! My '74 Volvo 142 was 2240 lbs - rally ready.

My old rabbit wasn't built up to the new cage standards, but I'd imagine we'd have only gained 10lbs or so if we were up there..

2007 Oregon Trail Scale weight for the bunny was at 2276 when we ran in the national for Max Attack, with the 2.0L 16V so we were 71lbs over minimum....we still had glass in that car too....too bad rabbits are so weak and bendy.


Haven't had a chance to weigh the newer golf, but I'd imagine we are well into the 2400's with it if not more, with Lexan...oh well off to group 5 anyways

My Opel Ascona was 2350 lbs back in 1990 or so when I weighed it, rally ready. The new cage is heavier than the old outdated Matter cage was but I've been removing weight in other areas. When I finally have the time and money to finish it I expect it will still be somewhere around 2300 lbs.

I don't think there is a real compelling reason to go with anything newer than teh 2001 Integra. You pay quite a hefty weight penalty.

That being said, there isn't really anything wrong with picking an RSX or newer Civic, especially for Production class, but for G2, in my opinion the older stuff is better.

Most of the stuff is cast (control arms, etc.). The rears are stamped, and the EK has even more stamped stuff than the EG.

Agreed on the inspect and replace on the rear trailing arms. IMHO just not worth the time to fab an upgraded part that I can get from a friend for free. On the EG/EF civics and the Integra, all the rear control arms are interchangeable. Even drum brake equipped ones are the same (have to swap out the spindle though).

I've thought about re-engineering the rear of the Hondas, don't love the trailing arm setup, but it works.

I will say one thing if you're considering a Honda--the 92-00 cars are at least designed to handle the larger 15" wheels. Seems like the EF cars would be able to handle it, but the wheel wells just don't have enough room. So I'm stuck with 14" tires on the EF, which is probably the ideal tire size anyway, but would be nice to use 15" wheels and tires which are easier to find and buy on the cheap.

I think mine weighed in right in the low to mid 2300 lbs range or thereabouts. We pack a fairly extensive toolkit and underbody armor.

Yeah, I hear yah on the 15s being a tight fit. Moen and Johnston run 15s but they got bigger hp (well Johnston does when its working) but they still look too big. I plan on using most of my 14" wheels/tires from the vw. Can just buy those bitchin' audi wheels too for good/cheap rally wheels. That's what the Himes were running at LSPR on their EG.

Yeah, P class the newest SI or RSX are your ticket, but nothing to go for in P these days in 2WD. EG/EK are easier to get min weight than a new gen honda.
