Well, I'm not sure how important this would be to someone, but numbers on paper usually help convince someone of something, haha. Even IF the same 20 organizers are organizing, the say, 40 competitors in the club would bring the total club membership to 60. Most clubs, I think, don't have everyone as "officers." The 20 skilled, experienced organizers could be the "officers," treasurer, president, a PR person, etc.

Whether you all want to or not, I think it's going to need some sort of structure, and to eliminate voting shenanigans, its majority vote, president can be voted out at any time and replaced by a voted in person. No electoral college, so what the people want actually happens, haha.

I've none a lot of work on this ...

I most say ..Real estate and its laws are regional NOT national ... What works here will not work there .... So keep that in mine ...Get a lawyer... Do to owning a large amount of land and a love of motorsports been digging on this subject for some time ... Its all about the right spot,, size of land does matter and time of ownership does too.. If you can find the land ware the people can see job$ and so on ... My land is in Dude Ranch country ware Dude's go to Ranch I guess ..As some places in this country make cars or grow apples ..Thats one of industries that has made a home in that part of the world ..Nice people really.. I control the water for that part of the world so to say too... Sooo... I tell the Dude Ranch Companys ..That "at your slow snow time off time of the year I can get people to fill the room$ and haggen in the bar$ ..."......... There all ears ..So it can be done ..But you would have to go at it at a strange angle as I have ..

But can't see it in all the work in the past five years I've done of it "EVER" being a motor sports park for say ..The dollars and numbers are not there .. It could be a farm or mine it or ranch horses of all things or other to keep in alive ..I own anuff land and its been in hand for so long its hard for even the County to stop me ...Countys broke that helps too.. One more road block and will see what I come up with ...Like I said it would not be about motorsport persay ..The number$ are not there for me ..But there ways I'm seeing to do it..Its all about the right spot ... The right spot seems to not make racers happy ..Know one wants to travel ..I understand to well on that ..

Someone just must do it then see who shows up ...

This is an interesting discussion.
Up north we are structured in a 'club' system under ASN. If you want insurance for an event (through ASN) the event must be put on by a provincially registered 'not for profit' association that is affiliated to ASN. (slightly simplified for this discussion)

Perhaps the 'not for profit' nature helps lower our insurance premiums and without a doubt there are clubs formed that then 'contract out' event management to 'third party' companies.

In Alberta there have been discussions about creating one 'super' rally club that would amalgamate the memberships from across the province. In the end it was felt that local clubs that could service local interests was, probably, in everyone's best interests. In particular, the Calgary Sports Car Club, which hosts three stage rallies, four rally test days and three navigational events each year, is a part of a multi-discipline club and can draw support from road racers, solo racers and so-on. Shared resources, people and knowledge is a benefit to everyone.

BC, on the other hand, has three strictly rally clubs, one essentially inactive one in the north, one active club on the Island and one on the mainland that has the vast majority of members. The result is a political quagmire, although that is because of the tiers of bureaucracy that exist above the local club level.

In the end, if you are thinking of forming your own club, you need to be clear about why. The first question I would have is if there isn't already a club that you could work as a part of to accomplish these goals. For the most part, club activities happen or don't because of the efforts and desires of the club members.

In short - what would this new club do that the Rainier Auto Sports Club isn't doing and are you sure you wouldn't be able to do it under the RASC umbrella?

Again, the 'political' landscape is different in the US but as a rule two clubs in the same region with the same interests generally only divide resources and multiply workload. (From what I have seen, two clubs in one area are almost always a result of personal or ideological difference, not any real 'need.')

What I would like to get out of club membership:
Friendship with like minded people
The ability to help out someone/receive help with car or project
Ability to participate or promote testing days that are safe and fun
Drink beer once a month and BS about cars and Rally

I am willing to give time, when the regular people were not around to run a drift day or 2 last year, I stepped up and organized and ran a drifting day at BMP. I routinely give lots of time helping run the regular drift schedule at BMP.

On behalf of the Rainier Auto Sports Club, I would like to invite anyone who is interested in seeing how the RASC meetings function to attend the meeting on Monday, January 11th. RASC meets the second Monday of every month at 7:30 pm at Cafe Veloce near the Totem Lake Shopping Center just off I-405 at NE 124th. It is a family friendly place where you can get a meal or a beer or just hang out during the meeting. We have a seperate space so we don't annoy the other patrons. Guests are ALWAYS welcome! We do the club business and then talk rallying, event planning and what ever else comes up. Club members have built and campaigned stage rally cars, organized events, worked events and generally are all around rally folks so you'll fit right in and should feel free to ask any questions you might have.

That ought to address some of the stated requests for regular meetings, family friendly, drinkin'a beer, member elected board, hanging out with like minded folks, legal and insured club, great Xmas party, and vast rally experience.

To clarify:

1) Working with Rainer Auto Club (who via my father I helped put on the first rain drop rally with way back in the day) is a good idea and worth further exploring.

2) The mission is not to be a PRG (Pacific Rally Group), Rally America or NASA competitor, it would be to serve the non event interest of the rally community such as practice, schools, shop talk socializing, etc. There is no reason I can think of to affiliate with one of the above other then informally to support common interest.

Thanks for all the thoughts and wisdom above.

There was a big sale of timber Carbon Credits this month here in Washington, big changes in the economics of forest lands are afoot. Weyerhouser is looking to convert into a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) something I know a bit about as I work for one my self.

In the long run reality always wins.

I think the RASC would be the first route to persue. They have plenty of experience in the rally world. They probably would benefit from an infusion of new blood also.

As an aside I heard a rumor that PRG may be going away and a new group replacing it with no SCCA ties. One can only hope.

Anders,

Seattle, Washington.

Gene,

Spill the beans if you can!

Everyone,

I think that I may have mentioned this already, but I have been elected to the RASC executive board. I will bring these ideas up at the next meeting.

Robert.

Not much to tell. I heard that a new group was forming to replace PRG. The SCCA region has apparently been trying to meddle in the rally business. Latest I heard was they wanted to charge all rally entrants money to pay for the SCCA regional news letter. Then they want an inventory of the rally equipment. A lot of this I believe has been prompted by Forespring trying to keep rally under his control. PRG has lost several good contributing members this last year. I haven't been to a PRG meeting in a couple years so I only get info 2nd hand.

Robert,

As you know, many of the RASC old timers did both TSD and Stage rallies. They know the ropes. Even after becoming mostly TSD, they ran a great and very reliable stage crew that served most NW Stage rallies well. But as the years wore on I think the perpetual nonsense of stage rally org. & sanction got to people. I hope something can be worked out.

RASC is a great bunch of folks. No nonsense... and high energy.
