Rally - What I paid for was a closed road, all to my self. treat it like that.
I spent the first rally getting hounded by JV for getting squirly at low speeds, and well damn it that's what I wanted to do!!
Now I try and do as much sideways braking, wild doughnuts, and power slides as I feel like before getting into the racing bit.
Trying to hit the timers with some gravel, and keeping it as sideways as possible for as long as possible from the stage start will win you some points with SOME start crews, and will make sure your having fun and not racing. it's also a good test of your prep, and the surface.

i'm pretty sure your car will be way too fast, so make sure your doing your best drifter impression for the whole stage.
Fast will come after getting some of the rhythm of the stages, I shoot for stage2.

A.C. is awesome. Sending concentration camp footage to America's Funniest Home Videos and all...

But you would go through a whole album driving a stage.

Reminds me of the Top Gear episode where Clarkson drove that Audi diesel to manchester and back on a single tank (some 800 miles if I remember) and he said he needed classical music to play on the uphills and metal on the downhill.

I was implying you should be up a gear, now you are and it works smoother and better. (wink!)

But since they all sound the same you could listen to one song on repeat and not know the difference.

I figure the most important duty a service crew member has is to make sure there is beer in the cooler and cold ones in the driver's and co-driver's hand as soon as the car is in the final parc ferme.

I can't even tell you how stoked everyone was when my service crew guy was standing there with not one, but an entire case of tall boy PBRs in 2008 at Rally Colorado.
I went this year and made sure to bring two beers along, one for Mitch and one for Steve just in case their crew was slacking. They were and both were appreciative. PS> If you crew for someone, have beer waiting at the end. Even if that driver doesn't drink, you'll at least be grateful. The more you have, the more friends you'll make.

Good advice!

And if the driver stuff it or has a mechanical problem deep in the wood, stop to buy beer on the way to get the car! We did that last time and the driver and co-driver were really happy! Made the ball joint replacement in 2 feet of snow somewhat more intersting.

but don't buy only a 6 pack... By the time me and the other service crew guy were done, they had drank all the beer but one... (I was the lucky one though!)
