I don't have it documented, but Kmy wife's old Saturn wouldn't rev past 3,000 when I had it in neutral.

You're getting much funnier in your old age !!!

Most all GM products and some others cut fuel at 3-3500 rpm if the car is in neutral, at least on automatics.

Yes, use of the rev limiter was frequent, which is why I momentarily freaked out when I was abusing the car in neutral. Car ran well as long as you added a quart of oil every 1200 miles, structural rust underneath the plastic panels and intermittent power brakes and ABS were the reasons it was donated to the local public radio station...

I was thinking the same thing yesterday when I saw "Caution can be a choking hazard" on a dishwasher soap tablet! I mean if you're stupid enough to put a soap tablet in your mouth I think you deserve to choke on it!

"Stewart Stogel, 49, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., said his 2009 Camry accelerated to about 15 mph on a street near his home Saturday, five days after a dealership trimmed the gas pedal and installed new brake override software as part of the floor mat recall. The car didn't stop for several seconds even though he pressed on the brakes. Stogel said he barely avoided going down an embankment and hitting a wall."

Really. From 15 mph and he couldn't get the car to stop? Sounds like a bunch of bullshit to me.

Now that they have a finger to point to for their own stupid mistakes. I'm really getting tired of this unintended acceleration bullshit...

"...installed new brake override software ..."

That might be the problem if they really installed a BRAKE override instead of a throtle override!

But really, anyone who cannot stop a car going 15 mph should not be allowed to drive ever again.

11 on 10 chances he pressed the gaz instead of the brakes

heres an idea, lets attached the brakes to the friggin pedal you depress... attach a cable to the transmission (from the gear shift), and a simple OFF button when all else fails.

But then they can't get that extra 1% of a MPG they need to make the new CAFE standards. In which they could just make MORE EFFICIENT ENGINES AND LIGHTER CARS.

Some times I just hate auto manufacturers. Today we need a $25,000 car with all this hybrid bull and fancy computers when the CR-X, Civic and Metro of the days were pulling off 60mpg with cars that weighed less than 2000lbs.

It's all this safety crap that's killing the automotive industry. That and people who love driving 10,000lb SUVs with chrome on EVERYTHING.

Well, the insurance companies were heavily pushing for airbags and stuff. "The evil automakers are sitting on this technology!"

Now they are whining that any airbag "deployment" basically totals the car because of the cost of replacement and the collateral damage. What is sown will be reaped...
