Have you been to a rally that Randy Zimmer is at. He does this but he tows the rally car with the second subaru.

Saw that at the MI Super-Rally-X he came out to. We were all looking at his rig going... REALLY? But it can be done. I think he only had a 2.5RS motor in the towing subaru as well.

But a tow package on a vehicle is just more power, better trans, suspension to deal with loads. Sounds like an STI would make a decent tow vehicle for Randy.

Is there anything that's terrible to tow with a standard road? I mean, it doesn't seem right but as long as you got the brakes/trans/suspension to deal with the extra load you should be ok?

I saw the tow/rally car deal with a couple of Jettas at Defi in 2002. The driver was taking parts of the tow car during service to keep the rally car going.

Yeah, my tow rig is a 1976 Volvo wagon with a ford 2.3 Turbo in it. The rally car has a Volvo radiator and IC, so I have complete spare engine with all accesories ready for use at service. Tows just fine on a tow dolly, comfortably does 65-70, will pull hills at 65, just need some extra following distance for stopping!

I run 2 trans coolers, and monitor trans temp. With the lock up converter, fluid is less than 150 degrees most of the time. And i gets 15 or so MPG towing.

Sean when you are ready for a Boxtruck that will tow your rallycar + the spare parts car + all the other ish you may wish to bring to a rally.....

'The Mothership' is available for adoption!

She has been used servicing rallycars for how many years now Dave?

Good runner. I can't promise you 15MPG, but she will drag anything and everything you wish to take to a rally.

PM me John with a bit more info, I really don't "want" a big dedicated service truck, but the wife had soo much fun we may be traveling to a few more events than I initially planned.

I would really like to see pictures of this tow rig in action.

Please.

Best looking tow rig there. If you stick with it for a bit, if it's capable, I'd like to see you ditch the dolly. You only need to f up one corner of the ratty to make the dolly near useless.

Keep in mind that the mothership would double as sleeping quarters. Was really nice not dropping anything on hotels.
