Is it meant to be funny? or serious? EVERYBODY , and especially the MANY first time VICTIMS of the farce that is HANS were gently reminded to get the belts ON the fucking POS thing. Nobody got yelled at for anything the whole weekend except just a Tiiiiiiiiiiiy bit at Al for fawkin downshifting the weak Volvo box and not using the brakes.. That was soon rectum-fied. In the absense of Rooting Tootin Tom Buress, Josh von Ahlefeldt was quickes on Saturday and Sundy till some naughtiness on the last Brooklyn about 2.7 from the end, so Garth in the very mild spec Saab 96 was fastest followed by Glen wallace in the pristine and well build Cortina, then my main Man Al Kun in the mighty 240 with the trillion mile b230 STOCK but for K-cam and headers and really really excellent suspension. Al drove smart and i discovered I could push on his knee and that pushed the foot which opened the gas, worked good! We got 3rd Gp2 both days and 3rd Nervous novice" Pretty good for first time in event and first time on seriously loose gravel. ------------------------------------------------------- > I forgot the smiley, I guess. There was LOTS (in our car--and I heard some grumbling too around me) of cussing about being victimised by the Hans thing, and of course the criminally extortionate price for the it, the obvious cynicism of the way SFI is a coterie of Safety stuff Manufacturers who "advise" Sanctioning bodies what rules they would implemet regarding requirements for safety junk---that be like if GM, Frod, Toilleta and Honja were to form the Automotive Safety Institute and they made "advice" which every state made LAW becuase "Well what would it LOOK LIKE in court if we were shown to have NOT required what is (alleged) to be "Best Practices!!???" Be that as it may. Thanks micheal for the loan of the thing and the helmet. > > I was on pins and needles all weekend trying to > get news of how you guys did. Wasn't even sure if > the car had gotten back together in time to > start. OOoooooohhhhh we got things working----heroic efforts on Gene McC, Alan Petersen at Apex Automotive in Ballard which "rented " uis lift for virtually nuthing and who like th e friend he is dove in and cast his FAR MORE experienced Volvo eye on stuff---and caught a DEAD U-joint, which we pulled and he replaced. Much thanks to Will, Alan's friend from SanFrancisco who was cheerful in the face of adversity and working "in several other people's kitchen" which is always hard. And seriously many thanks to Al for not getting defensive and whiney when I'm getting all Kirk Douglass and saying "THIS should have been DONE a LONG Time ago!!!" Yeah things should have been done, but Life ( Life? don't talk to me about life! I jhave this pain in the diodes all down my left side...life!) get's in the way. WE collectively fabbed and mounted ODO mount, ODO sensor mount, sump guard and rear mounts, light bar, under floor plastic sheeting leading edge protectors, Cat, wired the ODO, wired the EXtra lights, trouble shot and replaced Mass Airflow thang, mouted heater and blower assy, made all lights WORK, replaced dead U-joint, and I buffed the car out all purdy and shiney. There was a LOT to do. And the main point is: you gotta do it nd you have to THINK a lot about a realistic Triage system (and general prinicple like don't get it too far torn down at one time) > > Good joerb! > > Yeah there were lotsa good jobs really and probably every other car had all sorts of misadventures, too. But the car made it and Al was listening and improving each stage, it was good to watch... we started catch in the control zone the car ahead---they'd be just handing the cards in as we'd be arriving, or we'd be on their tail less than "One thousand one One tho", and that is significant impriovement. Now in learning we know that you learn then it must be reinforced or it does not get 'incorporated', so when's the next "reinforcing " event!!?? I thought it was another great DooWop weekend. The weather Saturday was gorgeous. Sunday saw some rain, and recently-graded roads meant that Palix, Smith Creek, and Brooklyn Tavern were all quite slippery... Lots of marbles! There were very few delays of any sort, and it was awesome to see the new cars out there. It was also exciting to actually see some competition in Historic class.
Palix is joining my list of favorite stages... It was so much fun! It was great to see JVL out there co-driving for Al in the Volvo, and it was nice to see the Medcrofts' XR4ti and the Ellis' Neon out for their first rallies. And Chris "Dirty Drifter" Sample, with Rebecca R co-driving. All of them seemed to be having a great time, in fact both Al and Sean told me they could not believe that something this much fun was legal. I was sorry to see Calle DNF, but there things sometimes happen. We at Team Gimp (I am recovering from a broken wrist, Mark is suffering from a possible stress fracture in his left leg) had a trouble-free weekend, with just a couple little pucker moments. And, of course, a shout out to Cody Crane. Yeah, he rolled, but when he was on it, he was one of the fastest cars out there overall! Very impressive. Ben B Edited 1 time(s).
