I'll admit to being somewhat skeptical about the devices at first. Then I was personally in two amazingly similar accidents back to back, the first without a HANS, the second with. The mechanics were not prototypical impacts for the device but there was STILL a day and night difference in my 'injuries,' (as in a week of discomfort vs. nothing at all) If that weren't enough to convince me, an event here had a slow car on a slow corner hit a tree that didn't move - but again more angular of an impact than head on. Driver, with HANS, slept in his own bed that night, Co-driver, no HANS, woke up three weeks late in ICU and is still not back to work 18 months later. His injury was the specific injury the HANS is designed to prevent. I'd love to see your justification for calling HANS a farce. Hey, fuck you Morison.
Got fuck a dsheep. Got it? just fuck off cocksucker. See asshole who are stupid asshole like you think only their incisively unique insight and personal genius and their own PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS are the primary source of all human knowledge. That is why you're an stupid dumbfuck. Also asshole dumbfucks usually are too caught up in their own idea of what the point---and like their blind shit head you are, fucktard, you have no idea what the kernal of the complaint is---you're just running your big fucking Canadian version of a Tex-ass mouth. See Al is a guy who is way way smaterer than you and works in the "heart of the beast", Bio-research (something that does admittedly require just a wee bit more brains than composing a photo or welding a shock mount---OK shit for brains? and so we were talking about subtleties, ideas you are too self involved and frankly un-intelligent too understand. The above proves you run your mounth, as always, thinking you know what the discussion of several other people were---which OBVIOUSLY you have zero idea what we were talking about. (Which was the charade of passing regulations to establish theoretical defenses in theoretical future liability cases, the passsing to possibly thousands of people the financial burden and plain annoyance in a RALLY environment of buying and using these overpriced things all so that at some theoretical future court case the lawyer representing "****" Inc can say "We had a rule proving we were doing "Best Practices" so it ain't our fault ---and you can't have our money"-----rather than actually having the balls, and the brains, to do the reasearch and present the documentation available for TENS OF THOUSANDS OF RALLY CRASHES. See the discussions, the MAIN SUBJECT, was about REASEARCH and LITIGATION,(since that is something that related to what my driver does and he's seen the results of) moron, not the real or imagine efficacy of the fucking HANS thing. Why don't you just shut the fuck up, moron? Seriously fuckin shut the fuck up. Nobody here needs any insight from a myopic fat headed wannabe Texas asshole, OK? next time, if you are in the conversation of you know what the conversation is and you're polite and don't while pitiously like the fucking crybaby i hear you are in real life, then you may be allowed to voice an opinion but for now shut the fuckl up you arrogant asshole. Goodness!!
Edit: Kyle you and I will not agree as to any real or imagined goodness of HANS. I'm well aware that when I'm racing I put myself and my Co-Driver at risk by partaking of the activity..... RALLY which for me mostly takes place on logging roads with trees which may well reach out and get ahold of the car so that I may wrap the car around it. I've bent the car but good on several occasions. My Co-Drivers and I continue to live without ever suffering worse then a flesh wound..... a bit of glass that I got to have removed from my hand. We already have roll cages, padding, seats, five point harnesses. Done right; this is enough for me! JohnLane Overkill is consistently more fun Edited 1 time(s). I'm going to have to basically defend John on this one, mebbe not his replies so much tho...
He had a borrowed HANS and has never worn one before, at least he didn't have it on backwards. Along with all the stress of helping Albert get a total mess of a car finished in time to start, lack of sleep, remembering how to go thru all the procedures himself, coach a novice driver to a great first event finish it would be pretty easy to miss a shoulder belt. I'm not a HANS fan myself, we have an R3 which is much more user friendly.. imo.. I won't mention JVL trying to put a firesuit on over his boots....or Medcraft showing up late for the drivers meeting or Dave Clark the lesser not having door panels..everyone did super hero performances. Great weekend JVL ! and again congrats to all the RallyAnarchy associates who finished their first events. Funtastic event for them. Rally can still be fun and enjoyable without new STIs or Evos . |

John, I apologise.
I started this thread when I was tired and cranky - one of those posts that should have been put off for another time. In part, I was reacting to a comment from a third party that suggested that you actually removed the HANS while on stage even thought I have no way to know if that was accurate. While I won't argue with your suggestion that the requirement for HANS comes from legal posturing by sanctioning bodies, I really don't think most sanctioning bodies have an option. At some point someone will ask "if the international sanctioning body requires this safety item why don't you." That is a question that is very expensive to answer. In the end, HANS devices provide tangible protection against injury, even in relatively low speed accidents. Again, sorry for the initial tone of my post... Given JV's reply to your initial post I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Kudos for keeping it civil. I can't imagine the willpower it took to not respond to all that putrid venom. I, for one, appreciate you taking the high road. |

I have yet to do two events with the same driver and it is quite clear that a good in car relationship is very important. So I had a blast..but Dave Clark Ver. I still owes me a hug. Thanks Dave, but the turnoff to the high road was before I made my initial post which should have been less confrontational in the first place.
If you poke a bear with a sharp stick you get what you deserve. John's bullying tactics and name calling are hardly unexpected reactions, particularly in situations like this. I just filter the garbage and try and find the content. What I read was >Dude, >You seem to think that you know everything there is to know about everything. >Can you not even consider differing opinions might exist and be valid? >Rather than giving examples of why you think the HANS works, shouldn't you have found the context in which I said requiring them was a fraud? >The context was that the requirement was more about protecting the asses of the sanctioning body that the necks and lives of the competitors, a thought that is supported by someone who works in the field of bio-research. >So, instead of starting up an argument with all of your guns blazing, why not ask a few more questions about what was said before taking exception to it. Beyond that, if you don't bring commentary or opinions that are on point with the disussion at hand, no one will care what you have to say. >I look forward to future discussions, but please keep them on point and be civil about it. >No wonder all Canada hates Ontario. He said he was grumpy, heard second third hand version of what was either bad jokes or bullshit or whatever and did as too many on the anonymous Intr-webs do, especially those with strong preconceived ideas and took the worst possible reading on something and wanted to argue. I know he wanted to argue and know there's no point in being even slightly civil with argumentative people. Fuck arguing. I was parked next to Carl Jardevall and asked him if the Swedish federation had worked out some deal with the press in Sweden to suppress the news of the presumably 10s of thousands of Swedes---and in Finland same thing---who must be constantly breaking their necks in the millions of brutal rollovers and crashes hard into trees and big rocks which we have all cringed at and he said he wasn't aware of if there was a deal, but there certainly aren't reports of piles of dead or crippled rallyists. It could be the average Swede or Finn rallydriver and co-driver a fitter and stronger than us by huge multiples, and certanly they have amazing thick skulls but i sorta doubt the lack of reports of serious injuries is because of physical condition or rock like skulls. But that's all talking about the efficacy of the actual device. My only area of discussion and disgust is the rationalisation of the need for a mandatory rule to protect WHO? And who is bearing the load of give "them" a defense. And the cynical SFI adviosory role and expiration bullshit. It is a rule now and gene was right, the other think was obviously easier to live with. I remember Juha Kankkunen being asked why Finns were so fast. His answer was "empty head, heavy foot." Thick head in my book. Oh, and John: (1) that was a masterpiece of invective; and (2) dirt is that you have been unbanninated over at SS. Please do tell. Your friend, Wilson "Talk about drugs.
