in-car vids @ Desert Storm
March 19, 2010 02:49PM
Here's some of my better runs from Desert Storm last weekend....rookie co-driver did pretty well for his first event, but I was over driving a little bit.

Had a high speed 'off' when my co-driver got behind and missed the !R5 at 1:13....a little unnerving sliding off the road at about 90mph!!

any feedback on my driving is appreciated....this is my 4th event.

Thoroughly enjoyed those. I like the helmet cam. Good video quality, you can see everything, and you really get a sense of the movement of the car.

Like I said on the YouTube comment during the off video, you can feel the tension in those. It takes nerves of steel to co-drive, imo.

thx! yeah, the 'helmet cam' came out better than expected...really happy with the camera now that I've got it dialed in. still some trouble with the sound, but I'll get that fixed as well.

Man, clearly your codriver is deliverinf way more info than you can process. Never seen so many "What?"s.

Too much info for your driving level.

90% is 5s and 6s, how does one stay awake?

i stopped the first video 3 minutes in. horrible notes, pace is WAYYYYY off. find someone else or yell at the guy on stage, he has to be on pace. he is not on pace. he can read notes, just gotta get him on pace.

i hate trying to watch rally videos with co-drivers off pace as much as youtube videos with background music.

co-driver is good on the rest of the videos, but never seems to be on the same page as the driver..... as a team they seem to not work well......

Too much blabbing for simple stages with only a few easy corners.
You need to learn to drive without being spoonfed. Thos stages are wide, sweeping, same surface, unvarying so should be a snap to drive by sight.

Clearly it was detrimental to your driving that much noise, and you were paying too much attention to it.

Makes me think I'm right about the "need' for "notes' being just so people can make on board vids where they can sound like they're watching "real" events even if it hurts their driving development.

^^that's the JVL I know!! he must be on the mend!

BUT, I'm going to ask for clarification on the 'detrimental' part....was I picking the wrong lines? too fast? too slow? give me a corner and analyze it!

Looking at in (and its hard to tell with the wide angle lens), but it seems to me I wasn't using enough of the road (probably most rookies don't), I could have started out farther outside and come all the way across to clip the apex better.

3rd video and about 1:13 into it....coming off a FAST straight, how could I have avoided that 'off'? co-driver got slow in the notes for sure and it was a downhill ! R5 (doing about 110mph)....had he got the notes right, I would have slowed a bit more, but w/o notes....then what? just slower on the straights?

and you can make fun of the 'in car vids' all you want, but how else am I gonna learn from all youz guyz?

Do you guys actually have any corners down there?? I think the 12 lane highway we have in Toronto has corners tighter than that!

The videos don't look bad.

My suggestion is steer less...
