There are THREE 242's for sale in your neck of the woods for about $500 on turbobricks.com. I want them all, but if I can't have them, I want them all to be rally cars.

JVL... Your smoking crack. The 140 is a far superior car to the 240!

With its turning radius alone you could forgo the hand brake turns!

Stick a B23F into it with a 5 speed and your golden. Leave the B20 in it and it's bullet proof! Just ditch its early FI system. Complete crap.

Besides, It shares all the rear body panels as a early 240. And the shells don't rust in half like the 240s do. Also, early steel is better.

And no I'm not biased because I owned one for 12 years... And regret selling it...

The 240 is a good choice because you still see them on the road every day, therefore you can get parts for them. As much as I like my XR4, I can go a year without seeing another one unless I visit another XR4 perv. And I don't see XR4s at the junkyard like I used to, most of the parts cars end up with hoarders like I'm trying not to be.

I can't remember the last time I saw a 140 series Volvo on the road...actually I think it was at Maine Forest Rally about 10 years ago.

Cheap readily available spare parts is an important thing.

Fucking fork-lift front steering! We don't NEED to turn around in one car length with the wheels past 90 degrees!

Does that stuff make you super motivated? Or loopy? They gave me that when I got my wisdom teeth removed, and I got SUPER happy, my pain went AWAY, and I got WAY motivated. I built shelves in the garage that weekend and cleaned up my room and the kitchen, hahaha

local junkyard scouting,
April 07, 2010 08:02AM
I just got back from JV's favorite place in the Boston area, Holland Auto Parts (early run to the airport this morning left me alone so I could just stroll a junkyard!).

Zero 240 Volvos, a few 740s, one "classic" Saab 900, one Impreza, a couple Legacies/Outbacks, and only one Merkur, a Scorpio that's so buried in the center of a pile it will probably never get crushed. Bleak for Rally Anarchists.

There were dozens of Cash for Clunker cars, including Audis, BMWs, and a huge assortment of rusty SUVs.

Wadded up Focuses (Foci?) were in good supply, but they all seemed crinkled up like a ball of Reynolds Wrap.

And NOW I remember that I wanted to pull an old school bumper jack out of something to make a jack for my snowmobile. Grrr.

I out a Pinto or Mustang II rack under a 140 a few years ago. Really easy to do.

Lou Beck put the hurt on Adam Crane at Mt.Hood with a very low spec Focus last year. I would go that route before ever looking at a Neon.

posting here instead of there....

throw my .02 in there Mike... as I'm 'new' to rally driving. Don't get focused on one particular car as your first unless you're stoopid enough to build it. Keeps your eyes open, and troll the classifieds. I have been watching for well over a year until I finally settled with my current toy. And lemme tell ya, it's def not what I expected to be with in the end. But g'damn am I happy as $h!t i am stuck with it now =D

the car I ran rallycross with last year, ya know the one that caught fire in the end... Ya that was a free car. And that too I had so much fun in. Just running the guts out of it!

Just keep a spending budget in line, and troll. I know you already ask people, just keep it up.
