Got a Sparco Sprint. Meh.
April 15, 2010 11:56PM

I'm unsure of the age of it, maybe somebody would know based on the color, but damn does this thing suck. Metal tube frame all hurtin' my thighs, an shoulders. I can't imagine having my codrivers/passengers use this thing.(I got for them, I have seats that fit me) Came with 3 point that I can sell or use in the daily though...

Do new sprints suck this bad? Or am I just a sissy?

I sat in the sprint, then bought the OMP TRS. It is also a tube frame seat, but comfy .

So the edge of the seats are where they are. Metal tube or fiberglas still the same. The new Sparcos are Sprint V and pretty comfy. You should have a FIA date tag on the seat somewhere. The nice thing about metal framed seats is they can be adjusted a bit. I sat in an entry level MOMO and thought it was terrible. As we used to say in the car business "there is an ass for every saddle" winking smiley

It's pretty amazing how uncomfortable many seats are, especially after a day of banging around in them. I think the manufactures all think race drivers are 5'3" and 130lbs. No Pizza Huts in Europe??

These guys make a pretty good looking product that is RA legal when mounted properly. http://www.ultrashieldrace.com/

Adjusted how? Hammer and Scissor Jack? It would be nice to widen this thing a half inch for my dad...

The ultrashield look preety good actually, nice wide shoulders.

Be a bit creative there..that's all I can say. Evert ralliest needs a Harbor Freight Port-a-Power...Problem with metal that is welded in a jig is sometimes the tubes move. You might have 2 Sparco seats and they will fit differently because of that.

We had a fiberglas Momo seat in the shop that had the bottom crooked. Not sure how they managed that but you could not bolt it down to the base. It was a 1/2 out of flat or more.

just as a data point, I'm 5'11" 205lbs and I LIKE my Momo Pista. But its pretty snug, I eat a lot of salads at lunch now.

Well it's good to hear new sprints are comfy, maybe this one is just blown out. Maybe I could get some foam and redo it. Or sell it and the harness and get a new one with side mounts.

Looks like the seat doesn't have the 5 hole for the anti-sub belts. Not sure about RA or NASA but in CARS you can't modify the seat...

If you think it is uncomfy trying it out - imagine spending the better part of a day in it!

I find most seats fit me well but I can never find jeans at Costco that have long legs and narrow waist to fit me... Hmmm some might call that a clue.

You can run the crotch strap over the front of the seat, I did it with my sprint when I had one in the Rabbit.

Hmmm ghetto, but if gene allows it... On the other hand, I don't want a codriver or passenger to be hurt, i'd rock to ghetto setup on my seat though.

Over the front is allowable or you can cut a slit in the bottom.

Or you could be smart and use a 6 point with the diaper straps coming in the side holes of the seat the same as the lap belt. Better than a 5 point anyhow.
