well our soon to be newest Rally Anarchista "Angry Andrei" is looking for a decent solid, like no floor or sill rust Xratty in or nearby Ontario....

What's out there?

Obviously interior is not important, be nice if it runs and drives sorta.

Ian?

Anybody???

Best of luck with that! I have never seen an Xratty near Ontario that isn't a POS except for the one that has run Targa Newfoundland. It is for sale BTW.

I'll keep my eye out here, but yeah, the salt fed tin worm is rampant. There was a Ratty-tatty in the local pick-n-pull last fall, but I could have mushed my hand through the rockers...

$17k may be pretty up there in moolah, but this car seems to be extremely well sorted for the price! I'm thinking this is the one NGTD was talking about.

Such a shame. I know several rollers that can be had for 100-300 bucks, so maybe road trip is in the future.

Or he could just look in the paper and get an E30 or E36. Sheesh.

John, you go on about obsolete cars that have in large majority been already crushed, and the Xratti has got to be the poster child.

Happy Saturday!

No I only responded to a request independent of my rantings.

at least the car in question, plentiful enough here is a chassi that was really the last 2wd car to do top 5 placings at WRC level, and which we can functionally---or otherwise---virtually duplicate....
IF we wanted....

The guy himself said he wants a car he's not going to grow out of and you gotta admit that the Xratty works good in simple 2,3 turbo form in rwd, and it is bolt in to go to Cossy motor, and should a guy eventually want to, 4wd is also virtually bolt in in the driveway----and the cars were good on gravel.

And sorry but I think BMWs have shit powerplants with their 6s

That BMW M3 clone back in the mid 90s---it was only fractions of a seconds quicker than my little ol' pushrod 1730cc at the time Ford V4 powered Saab....
Him with a very expensive car, very expensive motor, new tires etc and me with a million miles bottom end, tired heads, and used tires with 3-4 events.

Only seconds different overall time after 2 1/2 hours of SS times......

Poor ROI..

Now if BMW had a decent 16v 4........

I told the guy get a 240!!!

Tell him to hunt down Paddy's car. I think the guy that goes by Wilky bought it last.

One of my friends just picked up an absurdly clean one for essentially pennies. Deals are still out there.

Appraised value doesn't mean much in this world. Appraised and what it can be sold for are two hugely different things.

For someone looking for a gravel car, your car needs cage work and different suspension just to even do first gravel rally. I've never been able to find what it has for brakes to be able to say anything about what is used there.

This is the only thing I've found that you posted as to what's actually on the car for suspension and brakes:
"Next will be suspension & brakes ( do I need to list this stuff out????)"

I can tell in pics you have the Godfrey adjustable top mounts, but that's about it. Maybe more info in the ad on what is actually on the car will reduce some of the 'tire kickers.' I can tell you Andrei is doing his homework. I know he's talked to me, 4 Star, John, and probably many, many others.

Here's what I told him just in case you're curious:
"If Ian's Merkur has a CARS legal cage, all you really need is to change the suspension to gravel spec and to pick up some gravel tires to get out there.
Ian's Merkur is a good starting point. The nice thing is that nothing needs done under the hood and will have plenty of power to grow into. It's amazing how quick costs add up when building a car. I stopped keeping track a year or so ago when I hit $25K and that was just in parts."

Though I've since seen pics that indicate it does need cage updates to be CARS legal.

Say what?????? So now appraisals don't mean much??? Better tell the insurance companies that one. Folders full of receipts to prove that & more. Hahaha I should just give it away for free just to be a nice guy.
Nobody even asks!!! WTF
The spec sheet has been available for over a year. Detailed pictures & on & on....
Car available to view etc etc...........
Can you hear the crickets chirping now?????????

Cage work? I told him it only needed a $450 crossbrace added to the roof to bring it up to code. This was confirmed by Frank Sprongle at Four Star Racing. He talked to Four Star did he??? Funny that Dan didn't mention that. Someone told him that the side bolt in section were not legal. I'd like to know who did that??? I told him to read the rule book as they ARE legal!! Someone on SS also told him that.
Nutin' wrong with the suspension that is in the car if you change out to softer longer springs (less than $500) and adjust the struts & shock valving. If you want to go with JV's stuff then that is by choice. He wanted a car to "Get Started" with.

Brakes work more than fine!! Details? Ask for the list or just ask me. Don't guess. What, you think they're stock XR crap on there? Again, if he wants more that is his choice, not a necessity to get started. I think you pulled that quote from the list of the order of disassembly if I were to part out the car. NOT what it needed.

As for the gravel tires, I had 8 of them but he's to late now. I sold them. Still have 12 of the 15" rims that go along with the 12 16" rims & 8 Michelin R-compound tires (4 of which are brand new). (think asphalt stages)

I'll be so glad when this is gone! This has been the biggest Damn pain in the ass since I got talked into doing this. Even if I did get $17,000 for it today (doesn't even cover the interest), that still won't get back the $30,000 I got screwed over by one partner and another $2700 from the Emmett fiasco! Then the buyer who kept me guessing for over a year.......................

Grant, I love ya man but this is killing me!

BTW who know where Paddy's car wound up. Wilky sold it to supposedly buy my car. Left me hanging for over a year then, poof, changed his mind.
