So, I saw this on specialstage today, posted by Alan,
"There is only one running of Palix. The original schedule had two runnings, but the second running was eliminated because the rally was ending too late into the afternoon." This made me wonder, what are the total planned stage miles? 98 miles. Then I was like, what's the entry fee? $550 + $165 notes + $50 recce = $765 regional, only $800 more for national entry too. Pretty standard and in-line for the price of most Rally America events. Blows me away how many people enter the National though. Anyhow, back to the world domination. As many probably have heard, Rally Tennessee ($895 entry) is going to be 157 stage miles. Rumor for quite some time lately is that Idaho will be over 150 stage miles as well. Is this a new plan from Anders and the other organizers to take over rallying in the USA? Give 50% more stage miles? What's next, are we going to see a 150 mile Rally WV? Mt Hood rally? Is this why Anders is so supportive of our limited efforts in trying to host a snow rally in Colorado or Wyoming? Is he working on building a new championship series in North America that will have tarmac, gravel, and snow with WRC levels of stage mileage? I've also heard rumors of him traveling to Canada, Barbados, and Mexico and meeting with organizers. Does he have his sights set on the bigger picture of a new meaningful and achievable North America Rally Championship? Or is he just trying to give the best value and stages in the US? Is Anders the new Kurt Spitzner? But like a reverse where he focuses on the competition and privateers instead of on the prestige and manufacturers? Just kidding. Awesome job though Anders, Jens, and all the other people I don't know yet that are starting to create this precedent! Well, not really precedent, but rather a return to true rallying and adding back in the endurance aspect. Grant Hughes |

I would LOVE to do a rally that starts at 10AM and runs well into darkness, with an early start the next day. I have done 260 miles on a 2 day enduro on my dirt bike, would like a rally with those levels of endurance. On that event, you had 10 minutes on both mornings to work on the bike , and 1 20 minute session at the end of day 1 with NO outside help, and the bike was in Parc Ferme at all other times.
I will tow for 150+ stage miles. |

Don't forget, Rally Tennessee's 157 stage miles do NOT include ridiculous stages with 80+ mph average speeds either. Plus, the entry fee includes notes and 2-pass recce.

Hey mang, are you saying that blasting along a nearly straight piece of asphalt with maybe 5 phony ass chicanes and three corners at the end isn't a worthy stage? Dems fighting worrds mang!!! And i wanna know how we can fight to get that stage dropped and BETTER stages included. > > __________________________________________________ > __________- > > > > > > John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Just so everyone knows Olympus stage miles are a reflection of the current roads available and a loss of 'hinted' roads that didn't manifest themselves. This years event is not the poster child for things going as wished but is a reflection of the dedicated and gritty volunteers that toughed it out rather than canceling.
Blue Slough stage is pretty well recieved by everyone other than JVL..so it must be ok. |

Actually, I thought I was alone but so far I've not heard one person say anything at all good about it. Most common words were "bullshit" and "fucked" "wannky" I did thing that doing a simple, safe thing as SS1 and SS2 when the event starts so early in the morning might be good cause crews can do the stage while still asleep.... Gene, This definitely was not intended as a cheap shot at any particular rally in the US or the difficulty they have in finding suitably twisty roads. I have never been to Olympus so could only comment on what I have heard and seen in videos. Some people think it is cool to hit 130+ mph in 6th gear on gravel. I think it is cool too---in some situations! Meaningful competition it is not.... ____________________________________________________________- One. Mostly responding to the miles per entry fee comparisons. I think we need to start earlier in the morning and I wouldn't mind some evening stuff. We've finally got someone really working with volunteers and registering them in a data base (Tracy Manspeaker) so we might be able to get people trained and willing to stand out in the cold and dark. One of the issues with early season PNW events..the weather. Hopefully next year we can get things better lined out and some more stage miles. |

Gene. Definitely not a low blow at any event, especially not Olympus! It was removal of one stage to get done earlier that caught my attention which then made me wonder about the stage mileage. Olympus stage miles is around the typical 100 miles that have been the norm for National level rallies for the past few years.
I was more trying to highlight that some events are doing large amounts of stage miles this year. Caters to all competitors. I'm sure ending earlier in the day can be justified by easier on volunteers and lets them all get home earlier on Sunday, and maybe it's the number of times that I've been at an awards ceremony that was missing one of the factory crews because they 'had to catch a plane' (which I also always assumed to be a private plane) that made me think that stage mileage is reduced for all to accomodate the few that need to rush back to Seattle to catch that plane. Regardless, I hope this huge stage mileage on amazing roads is a continuing trend. Great job to all organizers involved! Anders, Jens, and all their crews. Grant Hughes |

It's one of the best bang > for the buck Rally America events in my opinion. Sno Drift organizers are smart though. Night stages, snow, decent stage miles, cheap entry for their regional guys (the ones that will still be around when the X crowd decides something else is more extreme,) If only it allowed studs... Needless, my 2011 schedule/plan is Sno Drift, Tennessee, and Idaho. Sno Drift I'll do in my open class car though. Grant Hughes |

hmmm interesting concept.
I was not aware of the 157 stage miles this year for RTN. That is simply amazing and every time i see RTN posted or talked about somewhere it makes me want to go more and more. I honestly dont think it would be possible for me to run RTN and then STPR so close together like that. I would need to bring all my gravel gear with me to RTN and head straight for STPR barring i dont wreck the thing there like i almost did last year. On another note, Anders did call me just a few minutes ago, but couldnt answer as i am at work and know it will likely be a lengthy convo. Wonder what he wants to talk about ??? the woods are lovely, dark and deep. and still hours to go before i sleep. www.brokenmotorsports.com |
