Al Kun had lots of fun and seems to have discovered which is stronger Volvo<tree.

There was an FX16 that did good....

Jardevall, our inspiration from his days when he drove a nice car had a Duh Nuff (that's the correct pronunciation for Dee En Eff)

Robert Gobright got some Sonett wheels and rode around in a Subaru having a bit of fun before having to fly back to Alaska where he put in 300+ hours working last month...

SPECTATING IS GETTING HARDER AND HARDER UNLESS OFFICIAL OVER CROWDED CAN'T SEE A THING LOCATION.

Ran into stage workers that have had enough dealing with the increasing rules placed on them and claim they are done ...

Next a-hole that ask me about a yellow vest is asking for it ...

Locals that claim to give permission and then were not allow to spectate in said location where not happy.

Didn't sign up to work this year (ok, Todd worked tech). Friends were signed up to work Sat only on Wreck Creek (the husband rode up with Todd and helped with tech). We tagged along to wreck creek, got there early, set ourselves up at inst 7 and told our friends to let Kim know if she was short people we were there and waivered (with my brother and his friends who decided to follow us).

Todd's video camera doesn't hold a charge anymore, so we didn't get Gruszka's stump incident on film. Gill then went off the road, Gruszka and his codriver (and eventually Todd once he got up there) tried helping to get him out, but could only get him to listen to half of the information they were giving him. He was stuck on some roots, needed to pull forward, then back out at a different angle. He'd pull forward and then just try to back straight up, at full on throttle, the helpers all gave up and he eventually destroyed the motor.

Day two, our intention was to get to Smith Creek early enough to set ourselves up at the jump, but our friends needed gas and Gloria was leaving just in front of us. The race was on, we were gonna take the bridge from one side, while she was going past some lights on the other side of the Safeway. Then Todd took the wrong way on the other side of the bridge and we got there after her. He talked his way into having us work at 14, which was a short walk to the jump. The jump that was only a jump in one direction and then only for a few cars. Ah well.

We did already have locals at our instruction, about 3 cars/trucks. Another 2-3 groups showed up. I had no issue with them going up to the jump with a number of our group and I stayed at the intersection for when/if more showed up. No one stopped and told us that they couldn't be there. In fact, the ones that were there already when we arrived told me how nice I was and how cool it was that they'd encountered a nice worker, that last time the people were very rude to them and actually made threats.

Although our spot ended up being boring, I'm glad I was there to help put a positive spin back on rally for them.

Fun roads, great volunteers!
No drama for us, Crane Creek was a great stage Taholah, not so much.

Brooklyn (E) is a great piece of road!
Brake issues meant the return was not so great.

Should be some good pics of us driving off stage on 2 flats and foliage in our grill. Never had more fun than just before we crashed. And weirdly, the crash was kinda cool. Sucked to DNF though.

Wow. Such a diversity of experiences. Cristy and I volunteed late in the week and were assigned to be HAM radio for Saturday's Tahola Stage - chicane 2. We had 6 other young folks as Road marshalls. The chicane was purely bogus but did provide some great entertainment. Some drivers went through quickly and smoothly, others nudged the barricades, a couple of cars got it com[pletely wrong and knocked them down and the rest braked WAY too early and crept around them. We had a BBQ and had a pretty good time despite the off and on rain showers.

Al's Volvo was repectable despite the lightly mangled nose. Why leave the driving lights on the bumper? That'll teach you.


On Sunday we worked aother radio control at the famous Brooklyn spectator area. It has become many things. It does offer a pretty good view of several corners and is run in both directions so you have an uphill and a downhill. There is parking but you have to be early and willing to wait to leave. Rally America had a sound system and announced the cars as well as a rally merchandise stand. Some personality conflicts with RA and workers but they managed to co-exsist. We were lucky to work the mid point area at apex of the long sweeping turn. The folks we were amongst were plenty drunk but were fairly well behaved and interested in the sport. Farther up the hill some folks were not so well behaved. There were some complaints of throwing rocks and empties at the cars. My drunks threatened to take care of the problem but the threat of the Sherriff made the trouble disapear. We had some scattered fireworks and cannon fire to round out the afternoon. Carl's EVO coasted to our location and we parked him behind the bannerguard with a blown headgasket. He was gracious and answered all the fans questions as they oohed and awed looking at his car.

Chris Duplessis's VW GTI Rabbit was kickin' some major butt. He was way up front just behind the big money teams and showed real balls don't need a Subaru or all wheel drive to really fly on gravel.

Afterwards they had a grand feed at the South Bend Community Center. Lots of good food. We didn't stay for the polite clapping during the awarding of the plaques of wood and tins of fish.

I bent it. A bit. Working on unbending it in time for oregon trail.

I shot my first credentialed national event for Grassroots and D sport.

that's why you have that car---and by extention why Alen Kunkanen has the 240; so you can prang it and just giggle!
