I'm trying.
I'm trying really hard. But it's damn tricky finding rallyistas around the world to interview. (When you only speak English and a smidgin of Spanish or German.) I need your help. Any help you can offer. I'm looking for rallyistas around the world to interview. I'm looking for that diversity - manufacturer, driver, co-driver, organizer and geographic location. Here's where things stand right now: - Carl Jardevall - Interview goes live tomorrow. - Bill Bacon - I have a brief, but exclusive pre-NEFR piece from him on-deck. - Mike & Paula Gibeault - Open to being interviewed once Idaho notes are done. - Andy Rowe & Cat Lund - UK team gets around, currently working on an interview. - Bryan Hull - UK "career" co-driver, interview is back, working on it for July publish. - Darren - UK privateer with a 97 Skoda, runs Wales GB every year on a super tight budget - Eugenio Perea - WRC Mexico CMO is working on a piece for me (got the first half - incredible). I am truly grateful for the stories I've got going right now, but I feel like I'm doing these people a great disservice if I'm not busting my ass to make sure their stories stand side-by-side with other exceptional reads from around the world. These folks have given their time and energy to this project and I want it to be a good use of those resources. I'm registered, here, Special Stage, Motorsport Forums, British Rally Forums, and countless Mitsubishi forums. Can you guys point me towards some people to interview for the site? I'd love to see more international flavor, maybe some Saabs or Fiats or Protons or something. Got a contact with an organizer in Yurup? Let me know! If you don't feel comfortable in giving me your friends' contact info, could you pass along mine and let them know I'm interested in sharing their story? brian dot driggs at gearboxmagazine.com goes right to my Blackberry. Thanks for taking a moment to read this post. Cat's sort of out of the bag, but I don't want to sell people short. I want to work this magazine up to 2 fresh posts every week and doing that means I need to hustle. I'm just having a hard time figuring out where to hustle! Pressing on regardless... Well - you can interview me all you want. Privateer i Denmark - but I'm a very lowly privateer, on a very limited budget :-).
For a few more top-runner oriented guys in Denmark, I suggest you hit up: Tim Svanholt - ex-european champion back in the 90'ies - now boasting a Golf Mk IV kit car. National champion in '09, etc. Web site: http://www.svanholtmotorsport.dk/ - you should be able to make out the emailaddress on the front page. Another interesting character is Michael Pedersen. Has participated in over 300 rallies, including the Monte Carlo. Currently he's running a Evo 8. Web site: http://www.mmotorsport.dk/ - contact information on this page: http://www.mmotorsport.dk/sw/frontend/show.asp?parent=104260&layout=0' Good luck! Brgrds Brian ![]() |

As a Mitsubishi man, I'd love to interview L'Estage. I'd just like to wait and see how things play out at NEFR first. Gearbox is kind of rooting for Bill Bacon and I'd hate to be disingenuous.
Truth be told, I'm thrilled at the thought of a Mitsubishi 1-2 podium this year. I hope Antoine and Bill have the best runs of the season at NEFR. I hope the stages and cars are kind and that they manage to recapture the thrill of their first stages as they trade times back and forth all weekend. ![]() I'll put a sticky note in my book to reach out to Pat Richard as well. Thanks. Looks like we've got a couple Saab interviews in the works now too! Thanks! PS - Can anyone link me to Logic? The efforts are starting to pay off. Thanks again for your help, everyone.
Just published an interview with Darren Jones in the UK. Bought himself a Skoda with a blown engine for 40 quid for the gearbox, but thought the shell was just too good. He built himself a rally car to run Wales GB that year. I really dig this story a lot. http://rally.gearboxmagazine.com/2010/07/darren-jones-40-skoda-rally-car/ Thanks again for all the recommendations. I've contacted everyone and pretty much everyone has signed on for an interview. Wo0t! Later this week? We've got our first SAAB. EL BLANCO!! http://rally.gearboxmagazine.com/2010/07/el-blanco-aaslousen-oberstierskin-michael-white/
Our first ever SAAB content on Gearbox. Thank you for pointing me in Herr Oberstierskin's direction. This interview was a lot of fun. If only more spectators would stay behind the everythings-gonna-be-alright yellow tape or the winners were paid in in beer, eh? (I'm personally thrilled to see another rally car take four years, though mine's looking like it will take closer to six.) Heh. Good times!
