Wild West, 9/24-9/26 , will be a NRS with RallyMoto this year in Pomeroy Washington. Early entry should be $200 and regular $250. DOT helmets will be allowed with an integral chin bar as well as SA00/05 full faced helmets. No open faced helmets and no rivetd chin bars.

For the Motos only. DOT hasn't been allowed previously at all. There are studies which indicate the DOT rating is equal in performance to the Snell M rating. Some of the M rating has to do with hitting cement curbs. SA helmets weren't accepted either technically even though that is the premier rating and far exceeds DOT or SM. In the interest of competitor economics we're going to allow DOT and SA for RallyMoto, closed face only , so no Peltor for RallyMoto.
There are some cheap DOT helmets with riveted plastic chin guards, those won't be allowed nor will an open face helmet. Reasons for that should be pretty obvious....

Is that 2 bills just the rallymoto entry fee as well and the cars are more spendy?

I just reread the original post and see why all youse guyz are confused..it was intended for the biker dudes to get them thinking. Helmet rule and entry fee are for Rally Moto. The car fee will likely be $550 early and $600 regular.

I'm all for encouraging new competitors, and respect that the bikes do less damage to the roads than cars, but I'm not sure I'm on board with the car entry fee being nearly 3 times as much as the bikes.

probably has alot to do with their impact on insurance, and damage potential. But I agree, shouldn't the bike entries help offset the total cost of the rally?

I would think any bike entry would be like bonus money since historically they didn't get to run at all.

It's probably not as bad is it seems. At least with cars, you have two people (driver and co-driver) to split the entry fee.

Either way, I hope to be competing in this rally.

What is the average bike count at any given rally moto event?

This weekend, bend was packed full of $$$ dual sport bikes. Its ashame they all ride like idiots on the highway!

There is an increase in insurance for adding bikes. It's not a huge increase. There is an increase in our costs also due to trophies and route scrolls. Right now we look to cover our costs. If RM is to grow at all we need to establish a competitor base. Most bike guys won't pay more than the $200 area as they have many other venues to compete in for much less. We are just less than 1/2 the car fee not 1/3 and I said should be. More info will be available after the first actual meeting.

The first Mt.Hood had nearly 30 if I remember but now we're down to 5-7 at west coast events.

I agree! In all the dirt bike races I have run, it never cost over one hundred bucks for the entire weekend! These races also had way more seat time and miles!

Thats the nice thing about bikes, lots of races and cheap! Its just harder to stay in one piece the older you get!

Kris and Sean: the pricing structure has little to do with anything about "fairness" or road damage. It's more like this: at $$$, you'll get no bikes, whether it's fair or not. At $$, you'll get some bikes. If you can grow that to 15-20 bikes then you'll be helping the bottom line of the rally.

You also shouldn't imagine that "oh, bikes showed up, car entry fees should be lower". It's more like "Oh, bikes showed up, good, maybe the person organizing the rally won't lose money now."

Chris: it's true, most bike events are cheaper. But we all know that they also provide much less. Rallies are half a dozen ambulances plus maybe some cops, 1000 square miles of terrain, your own private race track, 100-150 volunteers, and awards party with free food. It seems like the $40 enduros I've seen are 1 square mile, 10 volunteers, an EMT, and sharing the track with 200 other people. Which is good fun, I'm not knocking it, it's just not the same thing.

Grassroots rally. It's what I think about.

most $40 Enduros I have run here in Washington are 70-100 miles of single track trail, with no re-peats. 7-8 hours of seat time. Hare Scrambles are 6-10 mile loop trails for 3 hours.

The Idaho City 2 day ISDE qualifier that I have done twice is $200, 130 or so miles each day, Rally style with transits and special tests, Park Ferme ater day 1 with a 20 minute service, and 10 minute service before the start each day.
